Behind the Performance

"Time's been tickin', hearts are runnin'
Think that cupid's up to somethin'
You asked me how I feel, I say nothin'"

The dance crew moved to the beat, eyes closed, hearts beating and hair falling around their shoulders.

The rest of the song went on. The audience watched in awe at the girl's perfect harmony. Their movements looked so smooth and fluent it facinated anyone watching. Though behind those lidded eyes, they were shaking, thinking the worst.

"I keep you wonderin'
Keep you huntin' for my lovin'
But I crave us huggin'"

No one knew what truly went on behind the music.

No one knew their stories.

Not that they cared.

They were only here for the performance, nothing else.

Full of doubts. Questions. They were self conscious.

"I think I'm in love again
(In my head yeah you're in my head)
I think I'm in love again~
(In my head yeah you're in my head)"

Would you have ever imagined that these girls had troubles in their pasts?

You would only think about their dance. Maybe their outfits. Maybe even pay attention to any mistakes they did throughout the dance. Maybe you just watched beliving they've done this millions of times before.

But they haven't.

And you would never know.

You most likely would never talk to them.

You would have never thought about one of their members in their group having a panic attack a few moments before the show.

"My hearts' pacin', I'm confused, I'm dazin'
I saw something I never seen in you, it's got me shakin'
I must be hallucinatin'
I hear it happens, I'm just sayin'
Babe I'm just sayin'"

You would have never guessed one of them had stage fright.
How could you? They were pretty. All of them were. Surely these girls were use to attention.

Again. You only assumed.

"I'm trying hard to trust you when you say, "Give me your hand."
Baby, I'm fallin', I hope you catch me when I land!~"

But you still didn't know their pasts.

"I think I'm in love again~"

And you wouldn't. Which provides you their perfect image.

"I think I'm in love again~"

The song was coming to an end. And so was their performance.

"I didn't think it could be true
Let alone that would be you~
I think I'm in love again~"

This was it. This was their ticket to their future. It would be now or never. This moment could literally make or break them. Their careers and reputations depended on this night. You wouldn't know this either.

You didn't see the scouts sitting in the front row.

"And we getting so high, we always get the munchies"

You wouldn't think that this was a substitution. For the absent performance that was actually from this school.

"And we ain't gotta label, we're just rollin' with the punches
I make fun of your belly and tell you to do some crunches"

In fact, you would have never guessed that these girls weren't even a part of this school. Nor that they put this dance together rather quickly, in a matter of two hours.

"I think I'm in love again~"

The end of their first onstage performance.

"Baby I think I'm in love again
I think I'm in love again
(My head, yeah, you're in my head)
I didn't think it could be true
Let alone that it would be you~
I think I'm in love again
(I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love)"

Who were these girls?

"I think I'm in love again~""

Just a bunch of teens who were peer pressured into substituting in for an absent performer.

The absent performer or should I say, performers?
The Heavenly Slayers.

Now, the girls weren't known for their beautiful looks, though that was a bonus for guys.

No. Theyr're simply average girls who were best friends.

They just happened to have created a dance crew in two hours.

Who were they?

None other than, The Fairies.

Lucy Heartfilia.

Levy McGarden.

Juvia Lockser.

And Erza Scarlet.

But let's take it back a few days...
