“Meing darling, hurry up. The trucks about to leave.” My mon called up the stairs. Oh great it’s time. I took one last glance at my room. It was covered in hand drawn designs. I looked longingly at my paper covered walls. My eyes roamed over many designs wistfully. I was leaving all of this behind.A spark of red spashed over a blank space of white caught my eye. I saw a little red design I had never seen before. I bent down and noticed it would have been hidden behind my bed.

‘I’ll miss you boo.’ It said. That made me giggle, then cry. Anthony must have written that before he moved two years ago. I miss Anthony more than anything but at least I’m going to his school.

“Meing, Hurry Up! They won’t wait any longer!” My mon cried. I ran down the stairs and almost ran my mother over. “Slow down there Tiger.” She said as she helped me up. I took in her short thin frame wrapped in a slik wrap, and her eyes sparkled with unshed tears.

“Mon, do we have to move?” I asked for like the umpteenth time today.

“Yes. Now don’t ask me again.” She said leading me outside, “Lock the door.” After I had locked the door I trudged slowly to the moving truck. My mon’s boyfriend, Braden smiled down at me.

“Ah someone’s going to be a Debby downer.” He joked.

“Braden leave me alone. I don’t want to go. I love it here.”

“Sorry sweetheart, your mom and I have both gotten job offers up state. On the plus side it will actually snow.” He said looking blissfully happy.

“I don’t see what’s so good about the cold. It just makes you shiver.” I grumbled. I mean who could like the bitter bitting your cheeks and nose, and worrying about slipping on ice. Braden must have given up because the ride was quiet for three hours. After a good long time of giving them the silent treatment I couldn’t be quiet any longer.

“Oh my God! Look at that sand stone!” I cried. “Mon do you have any pencil and paper?” I asked. I must get a drawing of the lovely Oklahoma Sand Stone. The golden brown mixed with red, orange swirls, taking on a cutting jagged form.

“No sorry deary. But here is a camera. Take some photos.” She tossed me the camera and I took pictures whenever I saw something that interested me or made me laugh, like a bunch of cows nuzzling each other. Clicking filled the car as I snapped photos.

“Got any good ones?” Braden asked.

“Yeah! I have never seen rocks like these. And those cows are funny.” I giggled.

“Well that’s Oklahoma Sand Stone for you.” He teased.

“Honey, can we stop? I need to pee.” Mon said.

“Gross, very discrete my love.” He said scrunching up his face, in mock horror.

“Sorry dear. Let me rephrase that. I need to use the restroom to change my tampon so I don’t get blood everywhere. Is that discrete enough for you?” she laughed her eyes sparkling.
