Chapter One, The Kiss.

It all started with a kiss.

Of course, being young and naïve, we didn’t understand what a kiss represented. Or, why people even did it.

Growing up, There were two things that were constant in my life. Ashton Grey, my playmate, and The Golden Girls. I could always come home to both waiting for me on the couch. I was only six, so of course I would be utterly confused when the old ladies of The Golden Girls talked about it so often.

The question was bound to come. It just so happened that it came out while I playing with Ashton in the sandbox.

"What's a kiss?"

Ashton looked up from his sand castle, scowling because I had ruined his concentration. "What?"

"What's a kiss?"

Ashton scratched the top of his head. "I dunno. Mommy and daddy do it all the time."

I stared down at the sand to avoid confrontation on the blush starting to rise on my cheeks.

"I've never done it before..." He said.

"Me neither," I agreed.

I raised my eyes to come into contact with his. Before I could stop it, or even register it was happening, his lips were on mine. I was young and at the time, I still thought boys had cooties.

But with Ashton, it felt different.

Ashton pulled away and we both turned the opposite direction. We stayed like that until I started to giggle.

It started out quiet and gradually got louder and more fierce until I was left clinging my sides and rolling around in the sand. My giggles were met with a laugh, and finally Ashton was by my side. Laughing as hard as I was.

When our giggling fit was over, we both flopped onto our bellies, giving two huge smiles to one another. Ashton stood up and held his hand out to help me up.

"Wanna play Water Buffalo?"
