Chapter Three, The Final Goodbye

It was when we turned thirteen that he left.

We were on the rooftop of the Yuan building, which makes complete sense now. Why not confess your undying love to your best friend since diapers on top of a building while looking down at a completely romantic sight. Not that he did that or anything. Looking back, that night went perfect for me.

I had my knees curled up to my chest. The sight was beautiful...Lit up like circus lights. It was enough to distract me from the reason Ashton really brought me here.

To say goodbye.

"The nights really nice, isn't it?" Ashton said, his eyes sweeping over the view.

I nodded.

A harsh breeze blew over the rooftop and I cursed Ashton. Stupid...warm...jacket...

He turned his beautiful green eyes onto me. "Are you cold?" He asked.

His gaze immediately made me turn the jelly. I tried to think of something cool to say. Not that I needed to impress him. I was just a bit different than his type; The Retarded Cheerleader. I was popular, but I didn't feel the need to strut it in front of the whole world.

"Cold?" I stuttered. "Cold? No, I am afraid cold is something I am not." I looked away and cursed myself for saying something so stupid.

He laughed. It was a deep laugh for a 13 year old, and it sent shivers down my spine. "Ally, you're a horrible liar. Come," he challenged, slipping off his jacket. "I'll keep you warm."

"You sure?" I checked his face for any sign of mischief. "You wont like, throw me off the building?"

He rolled his eyes.

Hesitantly, I scooted over so that I was sitting in his lap and eagerly slipped on his jacket. He wrapped his arms around my waist and layed his head on my shoulder. I gasped.

Gosh dangit, Ashton Grey! DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW BAD YOU AFFECT ME?! Making me have stupid freaking butterflies and-

"Ally?"

"Yeah?"

"You're not breathing."

"Oh."

I left out a puff of air, not knowing that I was holding it in the first place.

Absentmindedly, I reached up to touch a piece of his hair. I hummed as I twirled it around my fingers.

We sat like that for a while, until we finally changed positions, him leaning against the wall and my head in the crook of his neck.

I inhaled his cologne.

Old Spice?

Axe?

Per-

"Ally, are you smelling me?"

"What? Of course not."

"You're a horrible liar."

"Whatever. No, I'm not.'

"You're beautiful.."

"I was not sm- what did you just say?"

I turned around to look at Mr. Hotshot.

He just called me beautiful.

Blushing like a madman, he stood up, bringing me with him.

"Alice Marriean Nightly, may I have this dance?" He play bowed.

It was my turn to blush. "Y-yes," I whispered.

His smile was so bright that it could light up the whole world forever. Keeping his 100-watt smile, he slipped his hand in his pocket, bringing out a lime-green iPod. He placed the bud in my ear and my head was filled with music.

Listen to your heart.

When he's calling for you.

Listen to your heart.

There's nothing else you can do.

We danced the night away, Dipping and swirling to the music. I didn't want to be anywhere but here. I wanted to be here forever, lost in Aston's eyes. What they held? I had no idea. Adoration, happiness, and...love? At the time, that seemed impossible.

I don't know where your going,

and I dont know why.

But listen to your heart,

Before,

You tell him goodbye.

Sadly, the night had to come to an end. On my doorstep, Ash and I held hands. I blabbered on about how much of a great time I had for about ten minutes before I noticed he wasn't answering. I swept my eyes off his black and blue converse and looked him in the eye.

"Ash-"

It happened way too fast for my love-drugged brain to comprehend.

He slipped his arms around my waist, and locked his lips with mine, all in the same movement.

I swear, I couldn't remember anything that happened to me in the past year. All that mattered that this boy was next to me, and was holding me in his arms.

Ash pulled away way too soon and searched my eyes for any sign of disgust. Of course, he didn't find anything. Relieved, he nervously laughed.

"Oh wow..I..wow..." He muttered.

"Yeah, that was...yeah..." I giggled.

He wrapped his arms around me again, this time I hugged back.

He layed his head down on my shoulder. I smiled and pushed him away a bit so I could see his face.

What I saw scared me.

His eyes were filled with tears. But he was still smiling.

"What-"

"Goodbye, Ally.."

I couldn't help the giggle that escaped my lips. I kissed him, this time. Ending the movement with a slight bounce.

"Goodbye, Ashton."

He smiled sadly, and walked away. I watched him go, seeing him turn around one last time.

At that time, I didnt understand.

If only I knew, that the next morning, Ashton and his dad would be gone without a trace.

If only I knew that was the last time I would kiss those warm pink lips.

If only I knew that would be the last time I would ever see my best friend.

If only I knew.

I kept my eyes on his face as he walked away, I watched as his lips formed the last three words that I would hear from him.

"I love you."

A/N:

Hey there, I had difficulty writing this chapter. Mostly because I was listening to my play list onplaylist.com. I was trying to set the mood, so I had on sappy love songs.

But the only problem was that it was on shuffle, so one mintute I would be listening to My Heart Will Go On, and the next I would be listening to Cant Touch This, and literally I'd be screaming at my computer like, "NO! This song is not appropriate!!"

But anyway, if your thinking, "OMG why are they kissing they're only 13!"

.......

If you have even HEARD of the stuff the 7th graders do at my school, this chapter is considered turtle speed. *Shiver*

So anyway, Thank you again for reading this! I love you guys! :D
