Who Knew: Chapter Four, Emotions
"I'm going over to Ashton's!" I called out to my mother while I grabbed my jacket. I was two steps out the door when I noticed she hadn't answered. "Mom?" I turned around to see her whispering into her cell-phone.
"Yes, I understand. Please call back if you find anything. Thanks again. Bye," She hung up and looked at me, her eyes grim.
Confusion was written all over my features. "Who was that?.." I asked slowly.
She didn't answer for a while.
"That was the police," she answered.
"What?!" I screeched. I walked back inside, throwing my jacket onto the couch. I threw my hands up to my mouth in fake horror. "The police? Oh god, they've found me!"
I laughed, but it was cut short when I registered the blank look on her face.
"Okay, not funny. Got it, but seriously, why were you on the phone with the police?" I questioned.
"Ashton and his father are missing."
My eyes grew wide. "Missing? What kind of missing?"
"Everything in the house is gone, the money in their bank account has disappeared, and their just..gone."
I snorted. "That's not possible. Ashton would never ditch me so suddenly. He's my best friend for goodness sakes! I don't know what kind of sick joke your pulling, but I'm not falling for it."
I scowled at her and sharply turned around, when her strained voice stopped me.
"I'm not playing a game, Alice. I've tried to get into contact with them so many times. I even called the police, but since Ashton's father is involved, they cant be considered missing. He's gone, Alice. Im so sorry, babygirl, but hes gone." She rambled, running her fingers through her hair. I could tell she was stressed, but I still couldn't believe her.
Until it dawned on me.
I remembered yesterday. How he had looked at me. The tears that ran down his face.
"Goodbye, Ally."
Tears gathered around my eyes and I covered up the soft sob that escaped my lips.
No.
I ran out the door, ignoring my mother's cries, and the pounding wind. All I cared about was getting to his house.
Getting to him.
I ran for what felt like miles, the only sounds were my feet against the sidewalk and the intense beating of my heart. I held in my tears, it seemed if I let them out it would be like giving up.
And I wasn't giving up.
When I finally arrived, I threw my fists against his door.
"Ashton! Open up! Its me!" I shouted, and waited, my heart breaking a little every second. I pounded against the door again to no avail. Desperately, I turned the knob.
It opened and I stumbled inside. Only to be welcomed by emptiness.
The tears I were keeping in fell as I collapsed to the ground, sobbing like a newborn.
How could you!" I screamed through my tears, even though I knew he wouldn't be able to hear me. "How could you do this to me! You didn't even say goodbye! How could you kiss me and then leave?!"
Last night flashed back into my mind. I saw the way he looked at me. For those few seconds, he was my everything. But he had left me like I didn't mean anything.
It felt as if my heart was breaking in two. My best friend, the boy I had fallen in love with was gone.
I laid on the hardwood floor, crying my heart out, I realized that without him, I was nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
