Elle~

As I woke up from my slumber, I felt the newly-formed scabs on my back cause me pain. It feels like a bunch of needles stabbing my back. Pulling the few sheets off me, I got off my bed cautiously, trying to not hurt my back as I moved.

I walked toward my bathroom and grabbed the tube of Neosporin and applied it all over my back carefully, not wanting to remove any of the fresh scabs. After putting the cap back on the Neosporin tube, I walked back into my bedroom and grabbed a pair of leggings, a loose top, a cardigan, and a pair of socks along with my usual pair of sneakers. I needed to go to the store today.

Walking down the stairs toward the kitchen, I noticed my father was in the kitchen as well, drinking a cup of coffee and reading the local newspaper. He looked up at me, mumbled something, and went back to reading the paper. As I opened one of the cupboards, I noticed the coffee my father liked is nearly gone.

"Father, I need to run to the store today." I stated calmly.

Father looked up from his paper with a frown plastered onto his face.

"Why may I ask?" He growled.

"You're almost out of your coffee."

"Oh. Alright then."

That's odd. Usually I get yelled at right away in the morning. Maybe he's happy today.

"Thanks." I thanked him, and grabbed a banana from the fruit basket.

I wasn't allowed to drive so I grabbed my hat and coat, a few dollar bills, and headed out the door. Winter was almost here, and we had a chance of snow later on tonight, but I wasn't worried. Marty's Grocery was at least an hour walk from here, since my father and I live on the outskirts of town, and it was nearly 11:30 in the morning. So I'll probably stop to eat somewhere.

As I got farther into town, I noticed the high school they had there. I was homeschooled, and I took classes online, since my father didn't want people to see me. I noticed some kids were getting on a bus, all happy and excited, they were probably going on a field trip.

As I walked into Marty's Grocery, I grabbed a basket from the rack by the door, and headed for the breakfast aisle. I had came in here on Monday, and it was now Friday, so it was a good thing I came today instead of tomorrow. I found Father's favorite kind of coffee and set it in my basket, and headed for the checkout. No one was really there since everyone was either working or was in school.

I pulled the coffee can out of my basket and placed it on the counter. The girl there, whose name-tag said Alice, glanced up at me.

"So, I've seen you come in before. Do you live here?" Alice asked.

"Yeah, I live at the edge of town."

"Did you drive here?"

"No, I walk."

"Geez, that must be a long walk."

"Yeah, but I get in my daily exercise."

"Oh. $3.59 please."

I handed her $4 and she handed me back my change.

"So are you going straight back home?" She asked.

"No, I'm going to go get a bite to eat first."

Alice's face lit up.

"Hey, my shift's over now, can I come with?"

She seemed like a nice girl, and Father wasn't around, so I think I'm okay.

"Sure."

Alice clapped her hands happily, signed out, and ran back over to me.

"Let's go!" Alice said, pulling me out of the store.

Alice ended up taking me to a small diner, and the price of the food was pretty cheap. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich while Alice ordered a cheeseburger. When we finished, we talked a little while, and then we said our goodbyes. Alice headed back to Marty's Grocery, while I started my walk back home, carrying Father's coffee.
