I drove Hailey to her house, which was on the other side of town. It was quite a big house in a posh part of the area. I found myself feeling jealous, before I realised that she still lived with her parents. Oh god, I hoped her parents weren’t in. What if she made me meet them and they thought we were in some serious relationship? I didn’t know enough about Hailey to start answering questions about how and where we met, according to her parent’s standards.

“Don’t look so worried,” she teased, as she led me up her driveway towards the front door.

“I just don’t want your parents thinking I’m some sort of boyfriend of yours.”

“Ah don’t worry, they won’t,” she laughed. “After all, it’s me.”

“What do you mean by that?” I asked curiously.

Hailey simply flicked her hair and pulled the house key from her bag. “Well, let’s just say I’ve never really been girlfriend material.” I still didn’t really understand what she meant, but I decided to let it go. I didn’t want to sound like I was obsessed with her.

“And this,” she said as we entered, “is my glorious house.” I laughed, but as we walked in the gorgeous hallway, I realised it was quite ‘glorious’.

The stairs and hallway floor were covered with a thick cream carpet and there was some sort of side table in the wide entrance area, covered in photo frames, a bouquet of flowers in a vase and a small mirror. The wallpaper was patterned, but modern, and everything just looked so immaculate. I took my trainers off straight away, too scared to walk on the carpet with shoes on. Hailey followed my lead, although she didn’t look too bothered about taking off her shoes before I did.

“Do you want a drink or something while you wait?” she asked, as I followed her through to the kitchen.

“A cup of tea would be great,” I said, smiling. Hayley put the kettle on and got some milk and teabags out for me.

“I’ll just be upstairs getting changed,” she said. “I’m sure you know how to make a cup of tea.” I nodded and watched as her curvy body left the room.

Making my tea, it occurred to me that there was no one else downstairs; that I could hear anyway. I stirred the last of my sugar in and then wandered through to the living room. The room was huge. There were three brown leather sofas, a chair to match, a wooden chest-like table in the centre of the room and deep red velvet curtains hung from the bay window. It was just like the kind of living room I would love to own.

I could smell the bunch of red roses which were in a vase on the windowsill and was reminded of summers at my parents’ house. I sat down gingerly on one of the sofas, holding my tea and being careful not to spill it. I hoped Hailey would hurry up. If her parents arrived and found me sitting in their living room, what would they think? They would wonder who the hell I was.

Thankfully I soon heard footsteps in the hall and a familiar voice that I knew was Hailey’s. I wandered out into the hall with my half empty mug to greet her.

“Is this him? He is good looking isn’t he?” Oh god. That was obviously a parent. I walked further out into the hallway and discovered a fake-tanned Barbie look-alike staring at me in awe. Hailey was beside her and looked just as pleased with herself as her mum.

“Um, hi.” I held out my hand and she shook it without hesitation.

“I’ve heard all about you,” she gushed. “I take it you looked after my daughter well last night?” She gave me a knowing smile and I couldn’t help raising my eyebrows.
