{Prologue}
York, 1847
The rain poured down relentlessly. People scurried about for the nearest shelter. However, in the middle of the lonely street, a girl stood. She flickered in and out of existence, out of the sight of the human eye.
She wore a pale white dress that flowed around her thin, scrawny frame. It hung down, soaked by the rain. The curls in her brown hair dripped rainwater. A garland of white roses decorated her head and in her hands were a bouquet of red roses. She blinked, and blinked again.
She was hovering an inch or two above the muddy puddles. She moved forward silently. Each inch she moved forward, a blood-red petal fluttered to the ground. She moved to the end of the damp, gloomy street. All that was left was one stalk of rose.
Placing it across her chest, she exhaled. A thin wisp of white mist escaped from her mouth. She crashed to the ground and was still. A cluttering sound was audible as she hit the ground. The rose tumbled to the black tar ground and the flower burst open, the petals scattered around the lifeless body. Silver powder streaked the ground where the empty stalk lay.
It was no ordinary rose.
It was no ordinary girl.
She was a product of the Wind-up God, after all.
