"When is my brother going to wake up?" Lara whines at Julius, their vampire advisor, as she pokes her hibernating brother's coffin.

Yes. Hibernating. Byron Howard, the king of werewolves, and the last lycan to exist, was hibernating. When Byron had turned twenty years old, he didn't find his mate, who he has been yearning for.

People mistake werewolves as lycans when they are two different things.

Werewolves are humans that can shift into wolves. They shift willingly meaning, they can transform whenever they want. The size of a werewolf is 3 feet bigger than a normal wolf. Werewolves also age slowly. When they reach the age of 21, their aging will slow down.

When the moon is at its highest point, a full moon, werewolves are quite dangerous because they have low self control during this time especially when they don't have their mates with them yet. That's why werewolves chain themselves up when it's full moon.

Lycans, they are like werewolves but more superior. They are the strongest specie to exist and due to that fact, there are only a few of them, only two, to be exact. And those two lycans are Byron and Lara's parents. The former king and queen of werewolves. Lycans, unlike werewolves, cannot fully shift into their wolves. Altough they can fully shift into their wolves, it was a rare case and lycans do not prefer to fully shift into their wolves due to a lot of hindrances. So you can imagine them as wolf-like humans when they shift; insane muscles will start to appear, their faces morph into that of wolves, claws start appearing at the tip of their fingers, furry tails are visible, they stand on their two legs and fur will cover their bodies.

"It's been what? A hundred years?" Lara groans and rolls on the floor, embracing the chilling cement. Lara is bored. Her brother has been asleep for God knows how long and she is bored. She had found her mate when her brother stepped up on to claim the throne as the next heir. He held a soirée with a few chosen friends of his and Lara's mate was fortunately a part of it. Augustus, Lara's mate, was a vampire. He had really close ties with the Howard's for he was part of the initiators of the peace treaty which stated that vampires, werewolves, and lycans will finally live in harmony.

"Any time now, Miss. He will wake up any time now." Julius replies. He is as serious as ever. His family has traditionally been serving the Howard's and Lara could say that Julius was like her second brother, well, considering how her real brother is a no-show.

"I just miss him. . . I wish his mate would show up so he'd wake and I can smack him on the head for leaving me alone for a hundred years. A hundred years, Julius!" Lara smacks her brother's coffin and turns around to gaze outside the window of her brother's castle.

Julius chuckles and shakes his head. Lara and Byron have always been really close. Literally, no one could separate these two but what Fate needs to do, he does.

A creak sounds in the middle of the night, alerting both Julius and Lara. Canines and fangs are bared at the unknown creature who is trying to disturb them.

"I can smell you, you rotten piece of shit. Show yourself." Lara starts growling and her eyes are glowing in a rare silver color, the color only pureblood lycans possess.

A voice, as eerie and cold as the winter night, echoes around the empty room.

"Watch your language, sister. My ears are still sensitive from the nap." The figure slowly reveals itself under the moonlight. A familiar pair of piercing green eyes stares at the gaping two.

"What? No welcome greetings?" Byron smirks and opens his arms wide enough for his sister to jump into.

"You fucking asshole! You're finally awake! The gods have heard me! Mother will be excited to see you alive!" Lara glomps her brother and sobs against his chest.

Byron chuckles at his sister's silly antics and pats her golden brown hair. "I'm sure she will be."
Byron then looks at Julius and nods at him in appreciation and gratitude for taking care of his sister when he couldn't.

In a blink of an eye, Julius kneels on the cold floor with his right arm placed on his heart.

"Welcome back, my king."
