The Golden Four

I'm A WHAT?!?

"Peach?" I woke up to Lilac.
     "Yes?" I mumbled and sat up.
  "Where you up all night reading again?" She asked.
      I blushed. "No..?" I replied sheepishly.
  "You're a terrible liar." She told me. It was about two months after my dad had left and Brian had taken custody of me and Lilac moved in. My father had recently gotten married and his new wife was about four months pregnant.
    She smiled and gave me a peck on the forehead and left. It was Saturday and I had to meet Haley and Carmen for a meeting to plan Alia's surprise birthday party. Last year she told us that it was her last year that she was having a birthday party, and we decided to do one more idea that all four of us had been planning for years. I couldn't do it, because I never really liked celebrating huge on my birthday, Haley hated the idea, but loved planning events, and Carmen is crazing about giving everyone the best present. I got into some jeans and a sweater. It was the start of November and it started to get chilly. Three dances had already taken place, and the usual run down happened all three times. I got no invites, and was glad, because I could spend the night reading.  Alia turned down the three boys that had asked her to "practice" her role as Ariel in the Little Mermaid, Haley scared off three quarters of boys and turned down the other fourth. She only went because of Carmen who went with a boy that stared at her the entire night and wouldn't carry on a full conversation without telling her that she was really pretty. She ended up ditching him and left with Haley and we all had a sleepover. I had gotten my braces in October and was still adjusting a little.
     I went downstairs and leaped gracefully down the last four steps. Brian thought that it would be good if I started to do something other than read and study, so he made me sign up for gymnastics and I actually really love it. I had already managed a front handspring and a back and front walk over!! I am training for a meet in January and I still have a lot to learn.
     I sat down at the table and Brain and Lilac told me that they were going to have a date tonight. Lilac left to get dressed and Brian leaned over to me.
       "I'm going to propose tonight, and I need you to be there to video it." He told me. My eyes widened.
      "Of course! Would you like me to be seen, or no where to be seen?"
     "I'm taking her to a very fancy, very expensive French restaurant, so when you are going to hide in the back, and then when we get there, I'm going to ask if you can video it." Brian explained this to me.
    I nodded and he went back to his food. Lila came back about five minutes later and I smiled at her and then left to walk to Carmen's. I arrived at her front door and she ushered me inside silently. She put a finger to her lips and led me upstairs. Haley was sitting on Carmen's bed with Caroline sprawled across her lap. She stared at me and I looked at Carmen.
      "We were planning some of the party and she just fell asleep. I don't want to wake her up because she hadn't slept in the past three days." Carmen explained in a barely audible whisper. I nodded and went over to Haley and Caroline. I picked Cary up and she continued to sleep. I hummed some lullabies and put her in her bed and closed the door. Carmen looked at me and smiled and we continued to plan the party.

  I was really nervous. I was dressed in a grey modest dress and my hair was in a half up-half down hairdo. I was going  to hide in the back of Brian's car and I had his video camera with me. I peered at the front door as Brian told Lilac that he had forgotten something and asked her to get it. He busied himself with his tie and when Lila had her back turned, walking away, I slipped down the stairs in my grey flats and snuck into his trunk. I knew he had to box in his pocket. I covered myself with a blanket that Brian kept in his trunk. Soon after I felt the at jerk to life and move. He was going much slower than usual because I was not buckled in. We got there and left the car unlocked. He took Lila inside and I slipped to cover off and stepped out of the trunk. I grabbed the keys and locked the door. I shoved the keys into my white bag and slipped the camera out. Brian was leading Lila to a table and I approached the person at the counter.
"Reservation?" He drawled in a bored voice.
"I'm here to video a proposal." I replied.
"I'm sorry, but I can't let you in."
"Listen here, you're going to let me in, because I swear if I miss this proposal, I'll make sure you are fired!" I threatened. He stared at me and called a waiter over.
"Take this little girl out of here." He said.
The waiter looked at me sympathetically and took my arm.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing!" I half said, half yelled.
"Shhh. If you want a video, you'll have to come with me." The waiter said. I nodded and he led me to a single table where no one was sitting.
"There are no reservations for this seat, as it's only a one seater. I hope she says yes." He whispered to me and left. I heard the door open and slam, and I looked up to see my three best friends standing at the door. They rushed over to me, Haley and Carmen hiding behind some plants and Alia crouching next to me.
"What are you doing here?" I hissed at them.
"We couldn't miss this!" Carmen said,
"A romantic gesture that will dramatically change your life forever. Like we would miss this." Carmen added hastily after seeing my face. I rolled my eyes.
"Toujours le romantique" I spoke in French.
"Vous savez que vous aimez" Carmen said in perfect French. I stared at her in shock. I spoke a few different languages, only snippets of some, though. I heard someone cough and my head snapped to Brian and Lilac's table. Brian coughed to get everyone's attention. He shot a look over to my table, so quick that I barely caught it. I hit record and positioned myself alongside my friends and watched. Brian stood up and led Lilac out of the booth. He then proceeded to get down on one knee and started to speak.
"Lila, I knew from the day I met you, you were going to be someone special in my life. It wasn't until we had started to get serious, that I realized that I was meant to spend the rest of my life with you. I love you more than anyone in the entire world, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Delilah Apdet, will you marry me?" Brian asked at the end of his speech. Lilac had both hands over her mouth as he opened the ring box.
"Yes!! Yes of course!" She cried out tears streaming down her face. Brian put the ring on her finger and she leaped into his arms, kissing him full on the mouth. I was still recording, when I jumped onto my feet and cheered with the rest of the restaurant. Lilac looked over at us and I stopped the video. I hastily put the camera into my bag and all four of us raced over to give them a hug. Carmen and Alia had small tears on their faces and even Haley had glassy eyes. That was when it happened. The big glass window behind the booth exploded and I threw my hands over my head as glass rained down onto my head. I looked up in horror after it finished and saw a giant, I don't know exactly. It was a fire breathing three-headed monster with one head of lion, one of a snake, and another of a goat, lion claws in front and goat legs behind, and a long snake tail. It was terrifying. There was screaming everywhere. The thing lashed out and struck the ground. I jumped up and did a flip to avoid the strike. My eyes widened. How did I do that? I didn't have much time to dwell on it though. Lilac was screaming at me while Brian tried to get her to run, and I raced over to the bushes behind which Alia, Haley, and Carmen were hiding and ducked to et behind the plant.
"What the hell is that thing?" Haley asked. I racked my brain the place it. I must've seen it somewhere. I finally realized what it was. My eyes widened as I whispered it's name.
"A Chimera. It's a Greek mythological monster. But, that's not possible." I said. I screamed as it started to claw at the wall. I scrambled to Lilac and Brian with Haley, Alia, and Carmen in tow as Brian stood with his arms spread out to protect us. I stood next to Lilac and she stared at me. She reached down and I heard something un sheath. She pulled out a dagger and pulled Brian's arms down. She kissed his cheek and whispered, 'I love you.' Three simple words and I knew she wasn't coming back. Or at least didn't expect to. Before she could run out to the monster, Brian took the knife from her hand and dashed to the monster.
"BRIAN!!" She screamed his name. There was a bright flash and a person stepped out of it. The person notched an arrow and let it fly. When it made contact with the Chimera, it exploded into dust. My heart was pounding as I realized what I had just witnessed. Apollo, the God of Music, Healing, and Archery stood before me and smiled a dazzling smile.
"Ah! Lila! How have you been?" He asked Lila, like they had been old friends.
"Lilac, what the hell is going on?" I said shakily. Brian stood in the monster dust cover head-to-toe in monster dust.
"Julia, you're a Demi-god."
