"Good morning LA, this is ginger John - okay, that's not my real name, but close enough, hahahahaaa! It's 9am now, call me and tell me what your reason is for getting up this morning, the number is..." - Nelly tried to switch off her radio alarm, but only threw it off her bedside table in the attempt, never stopping ginger John from continuing his senseless prattling. Nelly sighed and remembered she'd planned on working on her assignment today, but it couldn't possibly be nine o'clock already?! She didn't quite know how long the party at their house had been going on, at some point the hours had started to fade into one blur. She doubted she'd slept much, at least it didn't feel like it. Now there would be the cleaning to do... Nelly sighed and heaved herself out of her bed, rather feeling her way to the bathroom than properly opening her eyes. Shower and coffee were the two things on her mind for now. Afterwards she might even be able to think again. Taking off her party-clothes, Nelly stepped into the shower - and indeed her head cleared: after the shower she felt a lot better, although she doubted she'd get anything done before noon. She was wearing the first clothes she found in her room - leggings, flip-flops and a vest-top - and had her hair wrapped in a towel; she didn't want to wake Dom and Mia by using the hair-dryer. No compassion though could keep her from switching on the coffee-machine. It took Nelly half a cup of coffee before she realised it was far too clean in the kitchen. Last night at least twenty people had been there celebrating Dom's coming first and drinking beer... But there wasn't a single empty bottle anywhere in the kitchen, no used plates in the sink or anywhere else. Someone definitely had been doing some tidying up. The floor, though, was still dirty - Nelly heard sand and dirt from the outside crunch when she took a step with her slippers, so after a small breakfast she quickly swept it. Perhaps she would give it a proper wipe this afternoon when she was slightly more awake.
Nelly had added half a page to her assignment when Mia entered the kitchen little less than an hour later. She sighed and rubbed her eyes. "It's terrible: I can't sleep longer than half past ten anymore. When I was 16 I would sleep till noon after a race, but for some reason now I wake up at some point and can't doze off again." She frowned at Nelly. "Your assignment?" - Nelly nodded. "It's only two weeks before I'll have to hand it in..." - Mia zipped her coffee and sat down opposite her. "Poor you. But anyway - how'd you like last night?" She smiled. "Usually, the 'after-race-party' is more fun than the races itself, at least for us who aren't driving." - "It was really good fun. Sometimes when I'm out with friends I feel my partying days are almost over - or just look at all those sluts at the races who were offering themselves to the drivers. That's not my style. But then yesterday, I didn't even realise how time was passing. Car fanatics are easy to be around: they've always got something to talk about, even though I don't know the first thing about cars." - Mia laughed. "Yeah, in a way they're all nothing more than excited boys. But the atmosphere is amazing, isn't it? - I hardly get to see my brother on racing days, did you see him much? - He's just so popular!" Mia rubbed her eyes again. "Gosh, I'm not used to staying up late anymore! - I can just remember somehow staggering up the stairs and into my bed. I don't even know when Dom shut down the party."
Mia's question as to how much she'd seen of Dom had been rhetorical, but it made Nelly think. At first, Dom had always been surrounded by other people, but at some point he'd come over to her, when there were only a few people left. It must have been some time during the small hours of the morning, Nelly had been tired and snuggled herself into a comfy armchair, watching the others talk about... well, cars, probably. He'd sat on the arm of the chair and looked down at her with what seemed to Nelly to be a slightly amused expression. "Tired?" he'd asked her. Nelly had sat up a little, successfully stifling a yawn. "A bit." Her eyes were looking for a clock when she remembered there wasn't one in the living room. "What time is it?" - "I have no idea." - She chuckled. "It doesn't matter, I suppose. It's holidays after all." - "Are you studying the same subject as Mia?" - His eyes were on her, so Nelly had tried to look somewhere else. "No, I'm studying English Literature, and a little bit of Maths. Don't know yet where it'll lead me, though... I suppose I should have made some plans by now, but... I haven't." - Dom shrugged. "Might not be a bad thing. Saves you the disappointment if they don't work." - Nelly laughed, quite sure he'd been joking. "Does that mean you're only making plans when you're a hundred percent sure they'll work?" It was more of a reflex that she looked up at him and now their eyes did meet before Nelly could prevent it. His expression was strong and determined when he had said: "Yes" and meant it. - "But one can never be a hundred percent sure that a plan will work!" - He grinned a crooked smile at her. "That's why one has to build in back-doors."
Nelly suddenly realised something and a weird feeling make her stomach flutter. She looked at Mia. "Did I go to bed when you did? - I was so tired out, I can't remember," she added with a weak laugh. Mia frowned and then smiled slightly embarrassed. "I don't know... I was so tired as well; I only remember climbing up the stairs and into my bed, as I've said before. I think Dom guided me upstairs, but I don't know any more. But you probably have. I mean, you've been up earlier than me so you can't have been much later in bed." - Nelly nodded and smiled at her friend, even though her answer hadn't helped much. Mia said she remembered getting into her bed, and therein lay Nelly's problem: she didn't remember getting into bed at all, when usually after long nights she did. She might not remember much else of the night, but she always remembered getting into bed. This morning, though, it had been different. Nelly had woken up in her bed, but in fact she never remembered getting out of that armchair.
*So what does this imply?!! =D I'm really sorry that I'm driving Nelly round the bend like this, but I really love it XD Love - please comment and vote!! - Jazzlin xxx*
