Josh's POV
I couldn't believe the fight I just had with Maddie. After all we have been friends for 10 years and ever since grade 4 I've had the biggest crush on her. I think the reason that we had the fight was because I didn't tell her that I liked her. I felt like I needed to tell her soon. As I looked out the window I saw the gas station coming up. My stomach rumbled. I was starving. As the bus pulled up on Quick Lane Street, I quickly grabbed my bag, said my thanks to the bus driver, and went out the door.
When I opened the door of the gas station, a cool blast of air blew in my face. Bags of chips were lined up on the black plastic stands and a freezer was against the wall, holding popsicles, ice cream sandwiches and other frozen treats. In the aisles there were bigger bags of chips and bags of candy. There was so much junk food I didn't know what to pick. I rushed around the store, grabbing as many things that would fit in my arms. Finally I placed the pile of junk food on the counter.
The worker glanced at the pile in amazement. I had bought a huge bag of Doritos nacho cheese flavour, Maynard's fuzzy peaches, a bottle of coke, and a chocolate popsicle. That was when I realized that the worker was Jane Rutt. Besides Maddie, I also had the biggest crush on her. Ever since grade 1, I had longed to have Jane Rutt. I had gotten over her by grade 3, but seeing her again was like seeing 1 million dollars placed in front of me. I stammered when I spoke. "Just wait a sec." Eating all this junk food was probably the worst thing to do in front of your crush. But since Maddie obviously didn't want me, I decided I wanted to get Jane Rutt for my girlfriend. I walked away with the junk food and instead brought back the chips and coke. I sighed while she scanned my food, my cheeks reddening. This was my big moment. My chance to get Jane Rutt and get back at Maddie. She handed me my food in a plastic bag. "Here you go, Josh," she said, giggling. I sighed again. "Jane," I stammered.
She nodded. "What?"
"Will you go out with me?" I asked, gasping.
She pondered. "Hmmmmm." She looked at me. "Well-"
I held my breath.
"Yes I will."
I jumped, kissing her smack on the lips. She blushed. I had a girlfriend!
Little did I see Maddie who walked through the door, staring at us while we kissed.
