Richmond Upon Thames, January
The man stood outside JJ’s house. He pulled off his motorbike helmet revealing his long brown hair, pulled back in a ponytail, and his mysterious black eyes which held a sinister secret.
He rang the doorbell.
JJ’s mum answered the door, opening it only a crack, as if she had something to hide.
“Hello?”
“My name is Major Davis. I believe you called?”
JJ’s mum nodded, and opened the door, pulling Major Davis inside and slamming the door behind him.
The scene which awaited Major Davis was one of chaos. The hallway, which could have been very pleasant, was littered with smashed china and glass. Most of the furniture had been knocked over. Suddenly a gust of wind blew down the hallway, and a figure appeared in front of Major Davis. Quickly, he grabbed the figure’s arm, and looked at him.
“Is this him?” Major Davis asked the terrified woman who stood beside him. She nodded. “Right then. Let’s go sit down. I could do with a cup of coffee.”
JJ’s mum led Major Davis and the figure into the lounge, where the Major sat down on the sofa, still holding on to the figure.
He turned and looked at the figure, who was straining to get away faster than the major could see. He pulled out his phone, and typed something on it, placing it in the figure’s hand.
A second later, the phone was in his lap, and the figure had stopped struggling. Major Davis looked at the phone’s screen. He could see JJ’s phone number on it.
He smiled, and texted JJ’s phone. In the blink of an eye, the figure disappeared, and then reappeared next to the Major with its phone.
Major Davis started texting.
‘My name is Major Davis.’
‘I’m JJ.’ The figure replied.
‘I’m not going to hurt you. I’ve come to see if what your mother says is true.’
‘It is. I don’t know how, but it is.’
‘Have you any idea how to turn it off?’
‘No. Believe me, I’ve tried.’
‘Well, I think I can help. But you’ll need to come with me. I work for an organisation who can look after you, help you realise your true potential, and use it in ways which will benefit society.’
‘I don’t believe you.’
‘Why not, JJ? It’s worth a shot. But you’ll need to leave this behind. Your family, your friends, and your old life, and come with me.’
‘Can you honestly help me?’
‘Yes.’
‘Then I’ll come with you.’ JJ replied.
‘Follow me then. We need to pick someone up first. Feel like a bit of a run?’ Major Davis asked, standing up. JJ’s mum walked back in with the Major’s coffee.
“Oh. Major Davis? Are you going somewhere?” she asked.
“Yes. And JJ’s coming with me. I doubt you’ll see him again.” She nodded, gulped, and walked out of the room.
‘Mum hasn’t attempted to speak to me since I sped up.’
‘Let’s go.’ Texted Major Davis, grabbing his helmet off the coat stand and walking out the door. The door slammed shut behind JJ, and he looked behind him, at the life he was leaving.
‘Get ready to run.’ Major Davis texted, jumping onto his motorbike and revving the engine. He shot off down the quiet road, a sonic boom following as JJ ran behind him.
