RAGNAROK Virtual Online: Legend of Deian

Volume 01 - Chapter 01: "DAY 00"

It was the year 2040, virtual games were a booming industry. It boosted the economics of different countries, crimes were lessen and the world has become a more quieter and more connected more than ever.

I was a university student at the time, and I was so hooked playing games that are not virtual. Ragnarok Online was the only game I play to my PCV1000, a desktop touch screen computer that was released in the year of 2030, I was an enthusiast of primitive games that requires mouse and keyboard yet there are no more computer shops are selling them and they have become a surplus.

Due to Virtual Reality games, other companies that produces computer games has gone off, their products are no more saleable. I did not care for this due to my addiction to Ragnarok Online. 

Many of my friends did encourage me to try it, but since there is no virtual reality game for Ragnarok, I did not pay attention. Well, maybe its just that other games cant attract me they dont have any charm to me that makes me blind to play them. None I say.

But during the mid year of 2041, Ragnarok Virtual Reality has been released, many Ragnarok gamers have gone complete crazy because Gravity did not yet release this game during 2040, maybe the beta testers are done and it can be used worldwide. 

I got curious, so I bought one machine to play and test it, yes a machine is needed for playing virtual reality games, it is not a machine like large and heavy machines though, it is more like a compact machine with shades and such to be used for transferring our minds into the game itself. It was a very genius invention actually.

But buying this game costed me penny, that made my mother more irritated and agitated of me buying this game, I really hate Gravity for putting such a price for a very light weight and small machine, so it really is applied also even for machines, the more compact and light a thing is the expensive it is huh...Whatever I wanted to play this game that I have waited for so long.

I shut down all of my appliances even my pc just to focus on playing this game.

I plugged it and wow what a simple machine, read the manuals and bam! I am at the interface already!

I was amazed by the interface, it was like when Gon has gone to Greed Island, sorry for being old fashion and I know HunterXHunter is older than me but I liked that series very much that it made me dream of playing one day a real Virtual Game though I also liked Sword Art Online that was so much fun to read and watch.

And the instruction, the NPC instructor looked like a real person, I really cant tell the different exept the clothes we are wearing, such a laugh, and by a moment this NPC Girl is asking me what game name should I use, Thinking for a name was surprisingly hard! I did not prepare for this when I gone logging here because of excitement.

It took me 20 minutes just to think of a name, really it was so painstakingly hard. I chose to use my In-Game name in Ragnarok Online that I played in my pc, "Deian" yes, Deian, the name I chose, so I said it to the NPC girl. She Inserted it then a blinding light came out of nowhere while she is giving me goodbyes and welcoming speech, just like what an NPC would say.

I was warped, I already thought the obvious, its not surprising anymore, but the light particles that has surrounded me after I was warped here in a familiar city which I have been dreaming of in reality has come to life now, and I was speechless, no words has came out of my mouth after I was warped in this city, then a guard standing at the gate spoke "Sir! Good Day! Welcome to Prontera! Enjoy your Stay Sir!"

That speech of that NPC Guard, it was like a real human talking, I am not wrong, I am really at "Prontera" the legendary town but I would say it looked like a city. 

People, NPCs, Players, Pets, are walking in this town just like what I see in any crowded markets, I am inside the game, I pinched my self but it was there still, I cannot believe that everything that I am seeing is real. I said loudly "Woooo!!!!! AWESOME!!!!" it was so loud and clear, I am in my excitement pose that when I realize that players are walking and they looked at me when I looked at them, they're faces are smiling like seeing someone like me is a very natural thing. 

I was so embarrassed but it didnt matter they dont know me in real so its alright to do embarassing things like shouting and dancing, I laughed so hard that people around me laughed too.

One player talked to me while I was in my awe looking pose and expression looking at the gates of Prontera. He said "Hey! what's your name dude?! I'm Cloud You're new here?" , He was a novice like me due to his clothing, that clothing is a novice-like uniform but then again just to be friendly I replied, "Hi Cloud! Im Deian! Yes Im new here".

He seems friendly, he said that this was his 5th day in this game already, he even offered me to join him to make rounds just to show me the awesomeness of this town, and I was amazed again, I never even realize that I would see Kafra in real life, She was so beautiful, although there are so many of them the only difference is just their faces but overall they are all the same, even their movements and clothes are indentical.

I even saw the NPCs which I used to buy pots and weapons as beginners, and this, made me more excited and encouraged to play this game more. The Urge of excitement is digging me and overwhelming my self.

We roamed the whole town, and it was beautiful, it as if Cloud guided me and I said my thanks when He was logging out.

While we are on our making rounds through the town, He taught me though on how to use adding friends I just needed to put out the book which is being hanged in my waist, It was a technological device that shows the friend lists, guild list, items, money and status.

It even showed my current location on map and type of job which I was right too, a Novice.

The Only thing that is different here that I knew from Cloud is that, Items and Money storage within a player has limits, like in a real world, Zeny and Items are going to be carried physically and stored in a bag or cart  and cannot be stored virtually which means when my hands are full I needed to go to kafra or any storage NPC just to store my excess items and go to a NPC Banks just to deposit Zeny. 

And that really striked me as if we were really living in a REAL World just a Primitive type era only but everything is the same as real world. That is a real Challenge to all players and that could mean Items and zenies can be stolen by other players. Thats a real danger there. I needed to take precautions.

I remember that at the Interface and Introduction part, the NPC said that We can be killed but will be respawn at the saved point, so we dont need to worry about dying permanently which is assuring.

Then I now alone in the middle of Prontera, walking, walking and walking.

I dont know what should I do.  Should I start attacking monsters?

There is this one player which is sitting at the chairs so I walked to her, an acolyte it seems perhaps a newly converted one, I introduced my self to her, she did not seem annoyed so its alright to talk to her, she even gave me her name, Ariana. Wow, Great..

I asked if what did she do first after she got here, it was a common question but she could really enlighten me for a bit so I asked it anyway. She replied quickly "I bought a low level weapon, started smashing porings and lunatics, level up until I can meet the requirements for being acolyte thats all is that a good answer for you?"

I replied a thanks to her after what I heard from her and it was a normal answer and then she said her goodbyes to me since she said that she was going to log out so I said goodbye to her too and even added her as my friend in my book.

But I wondered why some people are logging out? I checked the time in my information book, it is already evening so thats why.

I started walking through the south gate of Prontera and then there I stopped and Clicked the log out button in my book just to save where I will be respawing after I log in again.

I logged out of the game. 

I woke up to my bed, it was already 7:30 PM, my mother knocked to my room to get me into supper.
