Tris wakes up after the final test, she had managed to exceed everyone's expectations and get a good ranking, hell, she got the best ranking, she came first, beating everyone who ever thought she would end up factionless. She fell asleep that night, knowing something bad was happening, she knew, thanks to Four, that Erudite and Dauntless were planning something.

When she came to the next morning, she saw her friends and fellow new Dauntless standing, moving almost robotically.

"Hey, what's..." She stops, she looks at Christina, but Christina looks at her blankly, she realises that this has something to do with the vials that were delivered, everyone was being controlled.

"Faction before blood." Is announced down the corridor, Tris gasps a little but quickly follows the steps of the others, watching their moves and copying how dead they look, no emotion on her face. She then follows the initiates into the Pit, where Max and Eric are stood, looking around the mass of Dauntless zombies that are in sync with each other.

"So, how did it go last night, leaving Luna and Belle behind?" Max asked Eric, Tris kept her eyes ahead, still following the same movements as the others.

"It was hard, but I know she's safe." Eric said, "How does this all work anyway?"

"They can see and hear us, but just don't process it the same way." Max explains and Eric nods, his eyes moving across everyone.

"What's going on? What are we doing?" A Dauntless guy comes out, looking stressed.

Max looks over, Eric watches also.

"Divergent." Max says and Tris nearly flinches but stops herself, keeping herself under a fake coma. Eric walks over to the guy, stopping him and giving him an innocent smile, but Tris knew differently.

"Hey, everything's fine, nothing to worry about." Eric tells the guy, watching him calm down, his shoulders sagging in relief, but Eric gets his gun out and shoots the man in the head, watching his body fall to the ground, Tris stiffens a little, but makes her way away from the men, getting out of the compound and onto the train.

She looks around but nobody moves, everyone has reacted to this vial. Her eyes move and she spots Four, she slowly makes her way over, not to get attention drawn to her in-case. As she makes her way to him, she remembers the night previous.

"Four? Four fears?" Tris says in wonder, how could someone only have four fears?

"Four then, four now. I keep going in there, but I don't think you ever lose them" He says, Tris looks at his face for a moment before asking,

"Can I ask you something?"

"Sure."  Four says

"What's your tattoo?" Four looks over to her with a smile

"Do you wanna see them?"  Tris smiles and Four turns, taking off his shirt to show the tattoos on his back. Tris gasps, her hand moving towards his skin, her fingers skimming over the ink.

"That's amazing." Tris says, her fingers moving over each faction symbol on his back.

"The factions," Tris says, her eyes moving across them, "Why do you have all of them?"

"I just don't want to be one thing. I can't be. I want to be brave, and I want to be selfless, intelligent, honest and kind." Four turns to face her, a small smile on his face.

"Well, I'm still working on kind." He shrugs, before leaning down to her and kissing her. Tris pulls back after a minute.

"I don't want to go too fast."

Four smiles at her, "It's okay, I've already got my spot on the floor."

The next morning, Tris wakes and finds Four sitting on the bed beside her.

"Hey, come on, I've got something to show you." He says, standing, she quickly follows him as he walks to the roof of the building.

"Look" He says, pointing down, her eyes follow his finger and she the Erudite members hiding some supplies of something, what looks like vials of orange liquid.

"Erudite?"

"Yeah, they're here every morning, I've been watching them for weeks."

"What are they doing here?" Tris questions, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion.

"Loading supplies. Computers. And these." Four says as he holds up a vial containing an orange serum.

"What is it?" Tris asks, looking at the vial in wonder.

"I think it's some kind of cognitive transmitter, you inject it like a serum."

"Why?"

Four looks at her, "To create an army."

Tris is next to Four, she doesn't move or say anything, he takes a hold of her hand and Tris nearly sighs in relief, knowing he's not under the simulation and is okay, but what did that mean?

He is Divergent, just like herself.

The train stops at Abnegation, Tris' eyes move around quickly, looking for her parents, she doesn't spot them so she follows the Dauntless that gather the Abnegation people at gun point.

"Hurry up! Move!" A Dauntless under the simulation orders an Abnegation man

"I'm not resisting! I'm not!" The Abnegation man says, a pleading tone in his voice, he's scared for his life.

Tris looks over to Four before whispering, "I need to find my parents." They both stop as they see one of the Dauntless kill an Abnegation member.

"Just keep moving, where's your house?" Four asks, Tris moves quickly, getting to her house but find's it empty. Tris calls out, but there's no reply.

"Where could they have gone?" Four asks her

"I don't know." Tris replies, they leave the house and start marching with the other Dauntless, but Eric notices Four and stops him, Tris keeps marching until she moves around the corner of one of the Abnegation homes, keeping an eye on Four and Eric.

"The legendary Four.. Belle may like you and you might have been friends, but now you're a mindless drone. You were first in your class, now, you're nothing." Eric shrugs, he turns to leave but stops, he senses a movement and turns to look back at Four again.

"You think he's..?" Max questions, looking wearily between them both.

"There's one way to find out." Eric says, pulling out and point his gun at Four forehead, "Say goodbye, Asshole."

"Goodbye." Tris says, stepping out from behind them all and points the gun at the back of Eric's head, Max points his gun at Tris and Four points his gun at Max.

"Move and you die." Four says, Eric looks over at Tris and laughs.

"The stiff?" He continue to laugh, "Two stiffs. Two dead stiffs."

"We can't let a single Divergent through, this is what happens." Max says, Eric grins sadistically.

"She's not going to shoot me." He says confidently.

"I think you might be overestimating my character." She states, her gun pointing down at his foot, she pulls the trigger and a bullet makes it way through his foot, he cries out as he collapses on the ground, Four knocks Max down.

"Run!" Four shouts at Tris as they both try to get away from the Dauntless leaders, Max shoots at them and a bullet hits Tris in the arm, a lucky shot.  As Four asks her if she's okay, a bunch of Dauntless under the sim point their guns at them, causing them to stop.

"Drop your weapons." Max commands and they have no choice but to do that. They're are surrounded and captured, being lead to Jeanine, leader of Erudite.
