Hi, this is a chapter about racism. For those who don't know what racism is, it's described in Google as "1. the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races
2. prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior." I honestly do not understand why racism still exists. It's negative, and can cause people to look down upon themselves and can cause people to drive themselves to commit suicide if it goes on long enough. I understand that it depends on what you were raised to believe but sometimes parents are wrong.
That doesn't mean you should never listen to them when it comes to hygiene, safety, and responsibilities, it means if you know that they are being unfair to a specific race then don't be their shadow. Don't be the person to drive someone to lethal means of escaping the torture that racism truly is. Now after the attacks on the Twin Towers people have been labeling all Muslims as terrorists. This is as false as blacks all being drug addicts. Now, if you don't believe me, here is some facts that surely will move you along. In Google, when I typed up "definition of Muslim", the result I got was "a follower of the religion of Islam." I don't know about you, but I had no clue what the religion of Islam was, so I dived deeper and here's what I found. Islam means submission as in submitting your will to God. The religion focuses mostly on inner and outer peace, and is very similar to Catholicism however, they believe that Jesus was another prophet, not the son of God. This shows that they are peaceful people, they share almost the exact same beliefs as you. They are the same species, not a whole new life form called "Terrorists". They are not different from us in any way, shape, or form. You have no right to discriminate against them. Still not swayed? Guess what, in 2014, the FBI released a chart showing that only four percent of Muslims were terrorists. Yes, you heard me, the second smallest group of terrorists right after white supremacy groups. If you didn't know, this means that very few Muslims are actually terrorists. Now, if you want a first-person view, here is Pleaseuername one of my friends who helped write and edit this. She is a Muslim, has viewed racism, and has even been discriminated against in the past. Without further delay, ladies and gentlemen, Noelle:
My Grandmother and Me:
"My leather boots went 'click' as I walked down the stark hallway. No one was there besides that girl. Click-click-click, Muslim girl, click-click-click, Arab, click-click-click, Osama Bin Laden's daughter I bet, click-click-click. I started to run, my boots clicked faster and faster, my heart skipping a beat. Click-click-click-click, as I sprinted. With every drop of my foot, my boots clicked. The girl didn't move an inch, but her words did, into my heart, into my brain, into my skin, into the air that I breath. Everywhere their mean words lived. I ran into my house, into my room of sanctuary. My mirror only reflected the truth, I am Muslim, I am Arab. In my mind, I growled at the thought of who I am. Tears came to my eyes, I flopped down onto my bed and stared at my blank wall, if only I was blank like her. She bragged at how Atheist she is and how her skin shines like a pale moon and her light, golden hair is as magnificent as light itself. The tears poured in buckets. I rolled over, but the other wall of my room wasn't as blank as the previous. A picture of me and my grandmother, Allah-yrhamha, hung in an elegant frame. She was smiling, me on her lap, it was taken just a few years ago, before she passed. I thought about the names they called me today. In complete exhaustion from being chased by their horrid words, overcome by their evil sayings and dreaming of me as the perfect American girl, I fell asleep on my tear-soaked pillow.
I looked up into my grandmother's eyes... She smiled warmly.
"I'm going to show you what it means to be Tunisian ya binti." She said, her voice smooth like a calm sea.
We were back in history, looking at my ancestors.
They looked cheerful as they read the Koran. The words flowed melodically, the notes rolling up and down with the syllables, and spreading all over the valley, rustling through the olive trees. A feeling of tranquility swept over my body. I felt like nothing could go wrong and I wished that everyone could enjoy that feeling of serenity and balance. I felt as if anyone in the world could be welcomed with open arms and enjoy the peace of the united voices reading the holy book.
My grandmother looked at me and smiled. "Being Muslim is about inner and outer peace habibity. It's about welcoming all and spreading peace throughout the world. Al-Qaeda and ISIS are not Muslim, ya binti. They are the shaytan. They warp the beautiful words you hear now into hideous words of hate and death. They are the workers of the devil himself." Her words brought truth and clarity to me. I am nothing like a terrorist group, I thought to myself, no matter what she says I am the utter harmony and calmness of the olive trees, of the forgotten Wonderland of Tunisia.
Because of racism nations are being destroyed. It's not just an individual problem. Just look at Palestine and Iraq, they are suffering based on the prejudice of western superpower. For example the movie American Sniper, which got highly recognized in a positive way from most of western viewers"
Now do you understand? People can be hurt when you call them things they are not. This is it. No more. No more tolerance of this, no more hurting, and no more discriminating. This is now banned from all of my books. No one is going to do this here. Wattpad is a place to gather peacefully. If you come in here and start rambling about this being stupid, go away. This is serious, any racism here and I'll report you. I'll delete your comments. Now, I hope you all have a nice day. See you all in the next chapter!
I would like to give special thanks to Pleaseusername for helping write this! It's the first thing she's written on Wattpad and I hope she can write many more stories to come!
