Two weeks before...

"Amara..." Someone whispered carefully and poked at her shoulder.

"What?" Amara groaned, pulling her covers closer to her.

"Amara..." The voice became insistent.

"What?" Amara hissed.

"Amara!"

"What!" Amara finally sat up in her bed and frantically pushed her hair from her face to reveal her angry expression.

Ash put one fist against her hip to show Amara just how much she cared for her attitude.

"Wake up;" Ash said shaking her head in disapproval, "Only proper trolls sleep past day break."

"Perhaps I am a proper troll," Amara said lying back down and curling up in a ball, "You've declared as much enough times."

"No child I've helped bring up," Ash said leaning over her, "Is any kinda troll. Least of awl a proper one!"

Saying thus she yanked on Amara's blanket hard and rolled her right out of it. Sitting up Amara once again brushed aside her hair while Ash bit the inside of her mouth to quiet her laugh.

Amara knew Ash was expecting some sort of retaliation. So she decided to disappoint her in the worst way possible.

"I love you Ash," Amara told her, smiling at her sweetly, "I do."

Ash huffed at Amara as though she had been slapped while Amara collapsed on her side, laughing. She was wiping at her eyes when she noticed Ash stare at something outside her window.

"What is it?" Amara asked her, leaning forward and sliding the latch down. The windows crashed open and Amara shuddered against the cold only once before letting the cool air fill her lungs.

Cold air was the best kind of air.

Ash's eyes narrowed, tired and her mouth frowned as she said, "Someone's trying ter climb the wall."

That did it.

Amara just managed to grab a shawl before she hurried down the stairs, taking them three at a time.

"Amara!" Ash called, "Amara get back here girl! At least put awn some shoes!"

Amara stood still for only the two seconds it took her to secure the shawl across her shoulders. But that is because she needed both hands to open the front door.

She burst through and moved along the wind down the stone pathway. Letting it guide her.

She finally arrived at their back wall and stopped just before she collided with it.

Gasping for breath she clutched her shawl together with one hand while she put her other hand against the wall.

She pulled it back almost immediately.

There was someone there. They were climbing up the wall.

Finally!

Any moment now, she thought excitedly biting down on a scream, someone was going to come to their house.

Well, Amara relented wrinkling her nose. It was a someone that was trying to sneak into their house...

But that was another matter.

After just another minute, she huffed. Waiting for something incredible to happen - that could change your life - turned out to be exhausting work.
