Lestrade has a little girl who he has joint custody of. Once he was pulling extra hours on a difficult case and had forgotten he had custody that weekend, so he had to leave her in the employee break lounge with Sherlock for about 15 minutes while he tried to find another DI willing to take over his shift. When he got back, he came to find his daughter braiding Sherlock's hair and chatting with him about pirates.
