CHAPTER 12

Narcissa was glad she had work to do. Work occupied her mind. Nothing could lead her mind to wander if her mind was busy. So she checked and rechecked and made sure everything was perfect.

She moved around the Manor with an air of purpose and while coming across people instructed them or reminded them of their purpose for the night.

The most important night.

The fate of the world depended on Ivory.

Narcissa nervously tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear and bit her lip. She would need to see Ivory again and inform her.

She finally spotted her making her way with a determined face towards… her.

Narcissa inwardly recoiled. She wasn’t ready for this, who was she kidding? She was quite queasy when it came to confrontation. And she now had to confront her niece about her husband almost successfully molesting her until a potions master and her son rescued the girl.

Narcissa sighed, her life was so screwed up.

“Aunt Narciss—“

“Ivory wait, I’m very very sorry. I never thought that he’d ever—“

“It’s alright.” Ivory said softly and looked her aunt in the eye.

“How can I make it up to you?” Narcissa asked softly and slowly made to touch her niece’s shoulder.

But as soon as she touched Ivory flinch slightly.

Narcissa had never felt so disgusted with herself.

Nor ever felt so much self-loathing.

Ivory as though sensing her thoughts stepped into the circle of her aunts arms and held onto her tight. Slowly Narcissa mechanically put her arms around her and her chin onto Ivory’s head.

She allowed a few seconds but gently pulled back and ran her fingers through her hair softly.

“We’ve got things to do.” She reminded her and smiled at her a very small smile.

She led her niece through the west wing of the manor.

“Tonight the security will be tenfold. Absolutely no mistakes. The Dark Lord’s made sure of that and I will make sure his ideologies and death eaters remember that.” She said the last line with quite an amount of dignity.

Sure Ivory had been through a lot but almost nothing compared to Narcissa. She put herself in Narcissa’s shoes and then felt immense respect for her aunt. She knew that she wouldn’t be able to hold it quite nearly as well as her aunt could, or would.

Then again, only time will tell.

“The guests will arrive promptly at Eight and will mainly spend their time in the West Hall. It’s the largest and most suitable hall we have for tonight.” Narcissa said impressively and stopped and allowed Ivory to gaze upon the golden majestic hall.

It was immediately recognizable, it was modeled after the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles.

Ivory was instantly bathed in an array of gold, she loved it immediately.
