Chapter 3: Maki Learns Magic & Sword Skills

~~~Maki's P.O.V.

"Where are you leading me to?" I asked Ghirahim while he was leading me somewhere.

He didn't answer for a few minutes, "Well we need to get you to know how to fight with a sword and maybe get it so you can use magic." He says very bluntly, then he starts to walk faster toward the still unknown location.

"Hey you still didn't answer my question. Also, why do you want me to know how to use a sword and possibly some magic?" I state to him.

"Well, I think you may be a good help for with making sure my goals get accomplished. Also, I guess you could call the place I am taking a training grounds of sorts." He answers somewhat vaguely.

"Which one will you start with for teaching me how to use it?" I asked him.

"I am going to teach you how to wield a sword first. Now do you think you would be better with a one handed sword or a two handed sword?" He questions me.

"Um, I would have to say a one handed sword would be best for me to learn how to use." I reply after a bit of thinking. Soon after I had replied we made it to an open area that had attack dummies set up. "So, this is where I am going to learn magic and sword skills?" I asked amazed at the size of the place.

"Yes, this is where I will train you in swordsmanship and magic. Go over to the weapons rack and pick out a single handed sword that feels right for you to use." He tells me in a demanding tone what to do. Even though I didn't like his tone I still did what he wanted me to do so I wasn't defenseless. Once I got to the rack I had to try out quite a few different single handed swords before I found one (picture is at top) that suited me perfectly.

"I found one that I think works out perfectly." I told Ghirahim.

"Hmm. It is a proper weight for you to use and you seem to know how to hold it with ease. The only way to confirm it is a perfect match for you is by doing some  practice swings even if the swings aren't perfect that doesn't mean that it is the swords fault it just means you haven't had enough practice on how to use the weapon yet. So, go ahead and start to swing at the dummies." He instructed me.

"Okay." I say a bit nervous about using the sword. I approached one of the practice dummies and started to attack it with a bit of unsteadiness to my swings.

"Are you nervous about using the sword?" he asked me when he noticed my unsteady swings.

"Yes, I am. I have never used a sword before and I am slightly scared of cutting myself with any sort of sharp blade." I admitted.

He walked up behind me and put one of his hands on my shoulder. "Just relax yourself and think about hitting the target." he instructed while right behind me.

"Okay, I will try." I stated before taking a deep breath and clearing my mind. After I cleared my mind I swung at the practice dummy and hit it with a steady slash.

"Good job. If that slash would have hit a real enemy it would have done quite a bit of damage to them. Practice your sword strikes for another hour or so." he told me.

"K. Will I get a break after that amount of time?" I decide to ask.

"Yes, you will get to have a short break after that amount of time. After the break you are going to get started on learning magic." he tells me before walking a farther distance away so I could practice without a chance of hitting him.

~~~Ghirahim's P.O.V.

'she seems to be a natural with one handed swords, but she doesn't seem to have too much confidence in herself. I guess I will just have to help her with that. I am starting to wonder how she will fare with learning magic. oh, well I will just have to wait for finding that out.' I thought as I watched Maki practice using the sword that is now hers to keep.

~~~Time Skip to the End of Sword Practice

"Hey, it has been over an hour you can stop practicing with the sword for now. We will get in some more sword practice after you have learned some magic, but right now you get a break like I promised." I tell her when it has been the time I allotted for her to practice with a sword for the time being.

"Oh, I'm done having to practice with my skills for using swords for now." she says making one final swing at the dummy. "So, how long of a break do I have before I start to learn magic?" she asks me while walking towards me.

"I am going to give a half-an-hour break, then it is on to you learning some magic." I reply to her.

"K. So do you have any specific magic planned for me to learn?" she asks when she gets over to me.

"The basics of magic and if you end up being a natural I am going to teach you some attack spells, defense spells, and a teleporting spell." I tell her what magic I plan to teach her.

~~~Time Skip of sleeping 30 minutes

"Hey, Maki wake up. It is time for you to learn how to use at least basic magic." I say to her as I gently shake her to wake her up.

"huh. I'm up." she says groggily. To help her wake up I use a basic water spell to splash her with water to get her to fully wake up. "Ack! I'm up." she jolts from the water hitting her.

"It is time for you to learn the basics of magic." I state in an annoyed manner.

"Oh, sorry if I was oversleeping." she said slightly guilty.

"Now what do you think you need for magic?" I ask knowing she most likely doesn't know.

"I'm not sure what it would be that you need. So, could you please tell me what is needed Ghirahim?" she asked me.

I thought a bit before responding with, "A focused mind and a compatibility with some sort of magic essence." which is what someone truthfully needs to cast magic.

"Oh, how can you tell if someone is compatible with some sort of magic essence?" she questions.

"By seeing how one reacts to a large amount of any kind of magic essence. There is an area near by that has a sort of magic essence that I am not familiar with. That area is where we are going to see if you are able to use magic or not." I tell her. "Also, I want you to find where it is so start your search for it."

"Kay." she replies, then starts to head straight towards the area I mentioned earlier. "Um, Ghirahim what are you staring at?" she asks when she looks back at me.

"I was just thinking about how well you did and are doing with your training." I answer honestly. She doesn't say anything to my statement and continues to trek towards the area. 'well it seems like she knows where the area is without knowing it.' I think as she goes out of my view.

~~~Maki's P.O.V.

'what is over here?' I wonder as I get closer to the odd area of air. "Hmm, what is this place?" I ask not knowing Ghirahim isn't near me. I look around and notice a flower that seems very odd to be in this particular place. I decided to walk towards the flower that I noticed. Right when I got to it the flower grew vines that rapped around me and cut into my skin. 'what is going on? why can't I talk? why do I feel so sleepy?' I question in my head before passing out.

~~~Magic Area's P.O.V.

A trespasser came onto our land, so we did what we always do, which is attack them with vines. Instead of the trespasser going unconscious quickly it took a few minutes, but that also made us see that it was a girl that was compatible with us. As soon as we realized she was going to be our user we entered into her body to heal her and make it so she could start to learn magic.

~~~Maki's P.O.V.

'ugh, what happened? why do I feel so odd? why didn't Ghirahim come to this area with me? where is the aura that I felt earlier?' I pondered in my head before getting up and heading back to the training grounds. When I got there the practice targets had changed and there was no Ghirahim in sight, but I could feel he was watching from somewhere. I decided to start off by just looking for him, but I couldn't find him. 'Well I guess I could try to learn any magic if I can without him being here' I thought, then focused on trying to get rid of some of the annoying practice dummies. I got surprised when I had ended up burning quite a few to ashes.

"Well done. It seems like you are a magic user after all. Now lets get on to the real training." Ghirahim said coming out of no where. Afterwards he started to extensively train me with how to use magic and a sword properly and effectively.
