Adora is sitting in the living room of her home waiting on her uncle to arrive for their day out. Her uncle's lab is just a short ride from her house given that it lies between her home on the wooded outskirts of Timberland City and the city itself. As she waits, she tries to mentally prepare herself for going out into the crowded city and dealing with strangers. Interacting with people who isn't a member of her family is mentally taxing on her and interferes with her control. People tend to get on her nerves by being rude and inconsiderate to others, and since her powers feed on her emotions it is dangerous to be in close contact with such people for long periods of time. It's not that I think everyone in the city is bad, it's just there always seems to be that one person who is out to ruin someones day for the fun of it. She thought to herself.

Sitting on the living room couch Adora closes her eyes and prays for God to grant her peace of mind to get through the day. Opening her eyes Adora thinks back to the conversation with her uncle. I will have to be careful from now on because he is starting to suspect something and I will have to especially take care how I act around my parents. "My God what if he found out?! Would he tell my parents or reject me all together?" She thought to herself. "It's too dangerous for him to know, it is bad enough that he spends so much time with me. I could easily lose control around him and hurt him so I will have to be careful today not to lose control or give him any more reasons to suspect anything." A car horn broke Adora from her thoughts and brought her back to reality. Getting up, she turns her eyes to Heaven and says another prayer. Adora can't help feeling something bad is going to happen.

She walked out the front door to see her uncle next to his black Jaguar with a kind smile on his face. Adora returned his smile and again found it odd that the man had never married. It's not like he is bad looking for a man his age, he is tall, with a slim build, fair skin, black hair and dark brown eyes. Nor could it be because of his personality. He is a kind, intelligent man with a sense of humor and always has a smile on his face. Unlike most scientist, Dr. Renfield is a devout Christian and gives all credit for his success to God. He can have any women in the world so why is he still single? It is not for the lack of women trying to throw themselves at him, of course all they see is dollar signs when they see him.

Come to think of it I have never heard him say anything about girls he dated in his school and college days either. Maybe I can ask him later. She thought as she walked over to his car.

"Goodmorning Uncle John," she said with a smile as she hugged him. "Goodmorning to you too, Benny. How are you?"

" I'm fine, I am just not used to sitting around with nothing to do. It gets dull after awhile." "Well we can fix that! Onwards to the library!" He shouts while opening the passenger side door for Adora.

Rolling her eyes, yet again, Adora climbs into her uncle's car and fastens her seat belt as he shuts the door. When her uncle starts the car she is unsurprised when Skillet's album Rise blares through the car speakers. "Really? Are you trying to make yourself go deaf by listening to your music this loud?" She asks as she reaches over and turns the volume down. "Aww, my music," he whines. "Are you five as well? People would love to see how you really act, instead of the suave gentleman they see you are a nine year old in a forty-five year old's body." She banters good naturedly as normal when dealing with him. " Not only do you look good today but you are in top form as well I see," he counters easily. Shooting him a look out of the corner of her eye she replies, " I have decided to take that as a compliment thank you very much."

"Haha, but in all seriousness you do look good today, Benny, however, I think you could use something else with your outfit. Look under your seat." With a look of confusion on her face Adora reaches under and pulls out a long thin box from under her seat. Giving a questioning look to her uncle as she begins opening the box, his only response is smile and a shrug of his shoulders. Inside the box is a beautiful, short length, black necklace with a cross pendant hanging from the chain. The pendant itself is amazing, a detailed cross with climbing red roses going around it and in the center of the cross is a round, red ruby. "Do you like it?"
