I waved goodbye to the boys, a wistful smile on my face. My three best friends, Scarlett, Vivian, and Kenya, were shouting and whistling.
"Get in the car, Addy!" Vivian called, honking on the horn of her old green pickup.
"Yeah, we'll see them around!" Giggled Kenya.
"I'm coming!" I told them over my shoulder. "Just let me say goodbye!"
Scarlett groaned dramatically from the bed of the pickup, but I ignored her. I also ignored the smooching noises coming from the driving wheel as I made my way over to the three boys who were already back in their ripped skinny jeans and tank tops.
"So," I said with a smile. "This is it."
Luke nodded and stuck out a hand. "It's been fun, Adelaide Aria Winters."
"Oh, shut up," I smiled, putting my arms around his neck and pulling him into a hug. I inhaled his husky, warm scent one last time. I was going to miss Luke Robert Hemmings. A lot.
The way he always called me by my full name, the way he would pinch my cheeks, the way he would jump on Michael's back and scream, "Charge!" Before running across the lunch area towards me and my friends.
Speaking of Michael...
I took a step towards the second of the trio. Michael Gordon Clifford, his spiky brown hair sticking up every which way. "What color you gonna dye it next, Clifford?" I asked him.
"I dunno," shrugged Michael, smiling. "Green or red."
"Have fun," I told him, and gave him a quick, fleeting hug. "And don't be so self conscious. You're a great person."
Michael flushed and mumbled, "Thank you."
I was a little bummed Ashton Fletcher Irwin wasn't here. He was their drummer, but he was two years older than us, and I rarely got to see him because of it. He'd come to see us graduate, but had to leave early to help his mom.
I turned away. "Well, I'll see you guys around! Good luck with your band!"
"Hey!"
Oh, no...
Kenya wolf-whistled from the truck. "Say good-bye to Cally-bear!" Sang Vivian.
I slowly turned to see Calum Thomas Hood standing beside Michael and Luke, his arms spread, his eyebrows knit. "You were gonna leave without saying goodbye?" He asked.
"That was the plan," I smirked.
Calum grinned, beckoning me. "Aw, come on, you. Come give me a hug, Addy. Come on, buddy!"
I laughed in spite of myself and walked over to him, wrapping my arms around his ribcage and burying my face in his chest. Calum held me tight.
"Promise me you'll take care?" I murmured into his tank top.
"You know me," Calum whispered into my hair. "I'm always careful."
"Shut up, Hood," I giggled. "Seriously, though, stay safe. Take care of each other. You're a band, you're brothers. You won't see us, your sisters, as much anymore, but you've got your brothers. Stick with them."
"Okay, mom," Calum smiled, releasing me. "Now, go on. The girls are getting impatient. We'll keep in touch."
"Don't promise that you'll write," I smiled faintly. "Don't promise that you'll call. We know that won't happen. You're a big pop star now."
Calum's carefree smile vanished. "Addy...."
"Bye, Calum," I said. Then I turned, and was jogging back to the truck. I hopped into the bed, beside Scarlett, and called out as Vivian started to drive away, "Don't be an idiot!"
