If you think cheerleading is a cute little pastime for girls who stand on the sidelines, shouting catchphrases and waving pompoms, I suggest you try the following.  Get three friends to lift you up. Not just a few inches, not just a few feet, but straight up, their arms extended above their heads, gripping your shoes.  You should be standing up vertically, balancing six feet up in the air.  And that's the easy part.  Now lift one leg up, up, up and grab it with one hand so it's bent behind your head.  Extend your other hand out to the audience.   Is that painful?  Too bad.  You'd better be smiling like the air is your red carpet, like folding your body into origami shapes is the easiest, most enjoyable thing in the world.  Hold that pose for a couple seconds, then tuck your arms in and let yourself spin and fall. You'd better hope your friends catch you—or it'll be your face hitting the mat, your teeth and blood painting the spring floor.  If your friends are real cheerleaders, they'll catch you; you've practiced this stunt together a thousand times.   Bounce to your feet like it's nothing and wave to the crowd as it roars.
