The sun rose from the forest beyond the fence. The trees cast large shadows across the Twoleg garden as a ginger tom strode on the fence, his blue eyes reflected the forest as he glanced at the nest , sat there for a while before a tortoiseshell she-cat joined him. She gracefully leaped onto the fence beside him, their fur touched and signaled that they were mates and parents. "You should see them Jake." The she-cat said in a soft tone, the bell on her collar ringed as she shuffled closer to him. "They'd love to see who their father is. Two of them have the same ginger pelt as your's, but they seem more brighter, like a flame." The tortoiseshell cat meowed as the tom's ear twitched, a breeze swept over them as he replied. "I'm sure they don't want to see an old as their father, I don't think they'll actually believe you when they take a glimpse at me." Jake mewed as amusement edged off his voice, he wrapped his tail around the she-cat. "This is why I love you Nutmeg. You never cease to make me laugh or smile." Jake tilted his head a bit as he felt his mate's familiar scent fill his nose, he sniffed as another breeze came from the forest. "Well, I have to get back to them now." Nutmeg licked his cheek affectionally before leaping down the fence and back into the garden, she glanced over her shoulder. "I love you Jake." She said as the ginger cat turned his head around to her, rising to his paws he started heading back the way he came. "I love you too Nutmeg." He meowed as he waved his tail and disappeared. Nutmeg purred, her Twolegs called her and she trotted over to them as the door swung open and they let her in. Mewing filled the air as five small kittens were squirming around in a nest, she padded over to them and stepped into the soft nest, gently pushing one of the kits, she settled in beside her kits and they soon started to suckle. "If only you could see how loving your father can be." The tortoiseshell queen purred again as she noticed one of the kits, one of the flame-ginger colored kit's was struggling to find her, the Twoleg must've noticed too because she grabbed the kit and put it closer to her mother, Nutmeg mewed as the kit started suckling. Only to be kicked away by her older, and much bigger siblings, she was the smallest of the litter and was most weakest out of the other four. The female and male Twoleg came over and sat near the bundle, as they started speaking, Nutmeg heard the kits new names. Rusty, Princess... Nutmeg didn't hear the other two kits that were the largest of her litter but she did hear the smallest kit's name. "Small." Nutmeg heard the name more clearer than the rest as if she had wanted to hear a name for the small kit for a long time, although it's only been about a week since they were born. Nutmeg purred as she nuzzled the three kits, she was about to turn to the other two when the Twolegs pulled one of her daughters away from her. The tortoiseshell she-cat meowed frantically as she saw her Twolegs give one of her daughters to three new Twolegs who held her in their paws and started stroking the kit's head fur. Her male Twoleg gave the other three a small blanket and the new Twolegs wrapped her kit in the blanket, handed over something green and started heading out. Nutmeg cried out for her kit as she was being taken away, she sprang to her delicate paws and dashed after the three but her Twolegs blocked the way as the door shut, the she-cat flattened her ears and her fur spiked as she stared up at her Twolegs. She didn't know if that was supposed to happen or if it just happened all of a sudden, to Nutmeg it looked as if her Twolegs deliberately let them take her kit, she broke down and fell to her belly. Tears fell from her face as she covered her face with her paws, her Twolegs stroked her spine fur comfortably and lifted her from the wood floor and set her back down into the nest where the remaining of her four kits squealed for their mother which they sensed was distressed. Nutmeg sat there in the nest with her paws over her face until her Twolegs flicked the lights off and went away to their own den, after a while of grieving for her kit, she removed her paws and saw her kits sleeping soundly beside her stomach as she curled her tail around her kits. "I won't let anything happen to you." Nutmeg promised as she relaxed, took a deep breath and let herself fall into sleep that was disturbed by the way her kit looked when she was being taken away. But it was soon gone as another dream filled her mind, she saw a cat in the distance as darkness swirled around the tortoiseshell. She whimpered in fear as she lowered her head and ears, she saw the cat, it's forest green eyes were bright and as she blinked, the darkness vanished and was filled with the light of day. She raised her head and saw a flame-colored cat standing on a huge rock that seemed to touch the sky, the cat's head was held high. She was full of warmth until a flash of darkness and evil turned the area cold and soon, there was blood on the ground. Nutmeg stared all around her and saw nothing but blood and dead bodies, she shrieked in fear and awoke in her nest, her fur bristling. She panted as her dream faded and focused on now, the sun had risen and the light filtered in from the big clear window of the den, she sighed in relief by the light but was still haunted by her terrifying dream of blood. She stared out the window and gazed at nothing.
