After four years at university, you finally finished your studies.

You came back and found yourself a job at the local secondary school, teaching English literature. It didn't surprise me; you always did have an interest in books. Everyone was so proud of you.

I remember the day you returned.

It was seven o'clock and I was still at the bakery. The 'closed' sign was hanging on the door. Outside, the sun was just beginning to set, and the sky was clearer than it had been in days.

You came to the bakery after my mother told you I was not at home. I was alerted by the sound of the bell when you opened the door. "We're closed," I said, without bothering to see who it was.

"I know."

At the sound of your voice, I turned around, stunned. You were standing there in the doorframe, looking the same as always.

Tentatively, you asked: "Can we talk?"

I looked at you for a moment, still surprised by the fact that you were here, then I nodded. "Sure."

As it turned out, you wanted us to clear the air -which was a lot easier than we thought it would be- and after we cleared the air, we talked. Properly talked. For the first time in such a long time.

I told you that I was still happily in a relationship.

You told me you were still with your girlfriend, and that the two of you had agreed to make things work long distance. You were optimistic, and I was genuinely happy for you.

But long distance never works out. We know from past experience.

Hey guys! So sorry for the late update!! School is slowly killing me :( But I hope you're enjoying the book so far, and thank you so much for reading :D
