ADAM'S POV
Marcus didn't take long to return to the basement. Chase and I were there, prepared, when he entered.

"You!" he said darkly.

"Half-brother," Chase greeted, but not in any friendly form. "What's in your hands?"

"Oh, this new thing?" Marcus laughed. I peered at him. "You mean Adam and Ara's daughter?"

"Spencer!" The shout escaped my lips faster than I could process the thought. "You let go of her now!" My voice was deep now, the same voice I'd emitted when Leo was near death and I discovered my blast wave.

"Who's gonna make me?" Marcus taunted. "I'd be a great adoptive father. Be able to train her properly. Better than you lunatics at the academy."

Chase stepped forward. "Give me my niece. NOW." He was more protective than I'd expected.

"No," Marcus answered simply.

That was the last straw. I used my laser vision to shoot Marcus right in the chest, and he collapsed, and now Spencer was bound to hit the floor. Chase ran and slid across the floor to catch her. I moved to do the same, but I was much, much slower. He caught my daughter just before Marcus's body was to crush her, bashing Marcus's head into the floor while doing so.

"Chase.." I stood up to help him up and looked at my daughter. She was so precious..her features, well defined. Her mouth was curved into a small frown and she was asleep.

I began to cry. She was perfect.

Spencer Ohana Davenport.

"What the hell happened here?"

I turned to see Arly at the foot of the stairs, staring at Marcus's dead body.

"Forget that," Chase said, his voice raspy. "Come look at our niece."

Arly's breath caught in her throat visibly and she stepped over Marcus, coming to look at my baby, Ara and I's baby.

"She's beautiful," she whispered. Suddenly, she shook her head. "We have to get Ara to the infirmary though, and the baby. Now."
