"Would you stop kicking my damn seat, Kendall? It's pissing me off," I groaned to my younger sister.
"MOM, DESI SAID THE 'D' WORD!" she whined. She was still kicking the back of my seat.
"Would you two stop arguing just this once?" Mom spat, glaring at me from the corner of her eye, then to Kendall in the rear view mirror.
"Whatever" I mumbled, stuffing my headphones into my ears and kicking my feet up onto the dashboard. Hopefully the Biebs would be able to distract me from my sister's relentless kicking.
About twenty shuffled songs later, I felt my headphones pulled from my ears.
"What the hell?" I looked out the car window, only to find the door wide open with my seventeen year old brother, Blake, standing in the way. He smirked as he twirled my headphones around.
"You prick," I groaned.
"Aw, no love for your big bro?" he grinned.
"Oh, I love you so much, Blake," I whined sarcastically.
"Now get the hell out of my way." I wasnt in the mood for his sarcasm. It was nothing personal towards Blake, it was the fact that I'd just been stuck in the car for the past 40 hours with a 10 year old brat kicking my seat.
I didn't like the idea of my family moving to Florida. I'd left all my friends in Seattle, only to find myself stuck in a different state across the country. The thought of never being able to go back to my school with my friends was killing me. But it was worth it, I guess. At least Mom got her promotion so we'd have more money. Don't get me wrong, we were nowhere near poor, but maybe now I wouldn't get death glares when I asked to borrow 20$ to go see a movie with my friends.
I honestly had no idea where we were. Mom said we were in Jacksonville, which is apparently about four hours from our new home. Fuck. "New home." Just the sound of those words sickened me.
I guess I zoned out while walking because the next thing I knew, we were sitting in McDonald's. Blake was staring at me in the weirdest way.
"What's wrong with your face?" I grinned sarcastically.
"Just mimicking you. You make the funniest faces whenever your mind wanders off into Desi-land." he grinned. He knew he was pissing me off.
I quickly glanced around, making sure Kendall and Mom weren't around, and flipped him off, smiling slyly.
Right as I began wondering where my mother and sister were, they were walking back to our table with a tray of hamburgers and fries. Without thinking, I grabbed the burger whose wrapper read "McChicken" and began to eat it mindlessly.
"Tastes better in Seattle," Blake groaned. I nodded in agreement, even though I didn't see a difference; I just wanted to be back in Seattle.
"I like it here!" Kendall squealed, "it's warm!"
Ugh. This brat was not making the move any easier on me.
Mom had been staring at Blake for a while, and he only just noticed. "What?" he spat.
Mom folded her hands together, resting them on the table.
"Blake..." she paused. I could tell how exhausted she was.
"Blake, you drove from Jacksonville to Tampa during spring break, right?"
Another pause.
"Yeah.." Blake mumbled. He knew what she was going to ask, as did I.
Before Mom could even ask, Blake answered her:
"Mom, I'll drive to the house. We have GPS anyway. You can sleep the rest of the way, and I'll take care of the driving. No problem," he droned, a forced smile spreading across his lips.
