I stared at him for a few seconds; not because I didn't want to be his girlfriend, because trust me, I so did. I was just in shock that he'd asked me out. I mean, come on, look at me: I'm me. I just sat there, staring straight into his beautiful brown eyes, which were pleading for an answer.
"Wait," I finally spoke, "you actually like me?"
"No shit, Desiree! You didn't notice?" his voice rose loud enough to overcome the awful "it's a small world" tune. I opened my mouth to speak, yet nothing seemed to come out.
"Obviously I like you, Desi. All those times I kissed your cheek weren't just friendship kisses. Who the fuck does that, anyway?" Jesse explained as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"Actually, my friend Danielle from back home used to kiss my cheek," I interrupted.
"Yeah, well I'm a guy. You don't see me kissing Jacob every time I see him, do you?" he responded sarcastically. I couldn't help but giggle at the thought of Jacob and Jesse kissing each other like Danny and I would.
"That's another thing I like about you," he cut in. "You can lighten any situation, no matter how tense it is." I could feel my cheeks burn red, and couldn't help but smile. Right as I was going to try to speak, he cut me off once again.
"The way you flip your hair, y'know, gets me overwhelmed," he laughed. I rolled my eyes jokingly, but couldn't help it when I burst out laughing.
"Fuckin' One Direction." He craned his neck to look at me, rather than staring ahead at the singing dolls as he was beforehand. I smiled and covered my eyes with my hands. He was killing me with that gaze. I felt his fingers wrap around my wrists as he gently lowered them from my face. I looked up at him from under my eyelashes.
"That too. You're so cute." I felt like he was almost teasing me, until I remembered the only reason he was saying all this was because it hadn't even been a minute since he'd asked me out. I crinkled up my nose and pressed my forehead to his. He gently tucked my hair behind my hair and kissed my nose, which caused me to smile uncontrollably.
I hadn't even realized that the ride had just ended. Another thing I hadn't realized was that my fingers were locked with Jesse's and that my body was curled up right next to his. The guy operating the ride-who couldn't of been more than 1 or 2 years older than Jesse-smiled ever so slightly. Jesse stepped out of our little boat and extended his hand to help me out. As soon as I took it, he pulled me up and right into him, causing our faces to be barely an inch apart. I could feel my cheeks burning again and I knew I was blushing.
"Fuck," I mumbled. Jesse grinned and kissed my burning red cheek.
We walked down the extended ramp, side-by-side, to go find Kat. As soon as she spotted us, she was grinning from ear to ear.
"Fireworks guys. Motherfuckin' fireworks," she beamed, pointing to the sky as a hundred different colours exploded above us. Kat ran ahead to reserve a park bench for all of us as Jesse and I followed her slowly. He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him. I rested my head on his shoulder for a second, before looking up at him.
"Jesse?" I spoke finally.
"Hmm?" he hummed in a questioning manner.
"Yes," I grinned, my smile spreading across my face.
"Yes?" he repeated, confused.
I stopped walking and turned to Jesse, who stopped in his tracks. I rose up onto my tippy-toes to see eye-to-eye with him.
"I'll be your girlfriend," I smiled as I kissed him sweetly. I felt his hands around my waist, pulling my body closer to his. I couldn't help but part my lips from his and smile, which caused me to giggle uncontrollably. Jesse started laughing-but I'm not sure if it was to join my giggling or because I had just embarrassed myself.
Jesse nuzzled his nose into my hair and spoke in a low whisper; "we should go catch up with Kat," he said as he kissed the edge of my jaw. He started walking ahead of me, holding onto my hand as if he were pulling me on a leash.
"Can I sit on your shoulders?" I asked excitedly as I finally caught up with him. "Pleeeeease?" Jesse rolled his eyes and crouched down, playfully groaning a "c'mon," which I took as a yes. Once I was sitting on his shoulders and he was back to a standing position, I felt his hands grab my legs so that I wouldn't fall down.
I leaned down, flipping my hair out of Jesse's eyesight and out of mine. I went in to kiss his cheek, but with a slight turn of his head, my lips met his. I could feel his lips part into a smile.
Gently setting me back on the ground, I grabbed his hand and pulled him in Kat's direction. I gazed up into his beautiful eyes once he'd caught up and placed himself by my side. He returned the gaze and smiled. Our cinematic scene was interrupted by Kat:
"You guys, it's like you're in a fucking movie. This is so cute," she squealed excitedly. Jesse and I broke our extended eye contact as I turned to stick my tongue out at Kat.
"Oh really, Kitty Kat?" Jesse laughed, pushing her shoulder jokingly. She shot him a glare as she patted a spot on the park bench next to her, signaling me to sit down. As I did, Jesse followed me as closely as he could.
"Nuh-uh," Kat groaned, "you're sitting next to me, buddy." Jesse threw her a suspicious look.
"I want to enjoy the fireworks with you guys, not enjoy them on my own while I third wheel," she spat. I wasn't sure if she was mad, but when she pulled me from her right side to her left and grinned, I realized she wasn't mad. Just pestered. Probably because Jesse called her "Kitty Kat" again.
We watched the beautiful explosions of different colours and shapes for a what seemed like only five minutes, but in reality was about a half hour.
The fireworks ended, and it was about 10pm when we began to head back to Jesse's car. Kat was exhausted, but was still running ahead of us to get to the car. I guess she just wanted to sit down.
I, on the other hand, wasn't tired in the slightest. I guess I was still running on the adrenaline from the night's series of events.
I must've been feeling a bit drowsy though, considering I was behind my two friends. I hooked my finger around the belt loop of Jesse's shorts so I wouldn't fall too far behind. Before I knew it, we'd arrived at the car. I ran straight into Jesse's back, nearly knocking myself over. He turned around and placed a hand in the middle of back back to stabilize me. I felt my cheeks burn a bit from the embarrassment, but he made up for it when he planted a quick kiss on my lips.
"Don't be so embarrassed, you're just tired," he smiled down to me.
But I'm not, I thought to myself.
Kat was already asleep across the back seat by the time Jesse and I got in the car. Jesse revved up the engine, and we were off. But first, we stopped for coffee so that Jesse wouldn't fall asleep while driving.
Surprisingly, after ten minutes of driving around, there were no drive-thrus that had coffee. Just a lot of overly priced restaurants. Ugh, thanks Disney World.
We kept driving in the direction of our home, and I noticed Jesse was feeling a bit drowsy. I would take the wheel, considering I had my license and all, but I'd never driven at night and I also had no idea where I was going. We finally settled with shitty coffee and pulled into a McDonald's parking lot for McCafé.
"I'll be back in less than five minutes, okay?" Jesse kissed my cheek quickly as he was about to open his door. I quickly grabbed his wrist, resulting in him jerking back down into his seat. Right as he was about to question my actions, he noticed my concerning look.
"Desi, don't worry, I won't be gone long," he verified.
"No, I'm coming with you. I'm not going to sit in a locked car like a five year old," I groaned, crossing my arms.
"Fine," he smiled forcefully. We both got out and I ran over to Jesse's side. As soon as we got into the McDonald's, we heard Jesse's car alarm go off.
