Several in the crowd scream, and your breath catches in your throat. Frost Giants? In Asgard??
Wildly looking around, you notice Odin bang his staff on the ground once more. Thor stands up, and enters the palace. Loki and Odin follow close behind him, and Frigga stands up to address the crowd.
"Now, now, there is nothing to worry about. Your king and princes have the matter under control. Go back to your homes, and enjoy the evening."The crowd can't get out of the hall fast enough. You anxiously gather up your dress, fighting against the panicked crowd to reach the queen."How could the Frost Giants enter Asgard?", you ask as you approach her. "Hush child.", she says gently. "They are no threat to us for now." You nod slowly, remembering the Destroyer hidden inside the Hall of Relics. Your heart races as you realize how much could go wrong if the Destroyer failed. Queen Frigga notices you're still nervous, and places a comforting hand on your shoulder.
"Why don't you retire to your chambers for a while? I'll send someone to summon you as soon as there's news." You nod again, and calmly walk to your room, although the worry in you commands your legs to run, and as soon as Frigga can't see you anymore, you do. Using what knowledge of the castle you have, you race towards the Hall of Relics as fast as humanly possible.
Soon, you reach a T-pathway in the hall. You pause. Was it right or left? Trusting your instincts, you turn left. The hall is getting lighter. 'That's odd', you think. You can feel the path sloping upwards underfoot. You're supposed to be heading down! You retrace your steps, only to find that you can't remember which hallway you came from. A trickle of fear races down your spine. Where are you?
Sooner than later, the hallway no longer looks familiar. "Hello?", you call out, hoping a someone will hear you. Silence. "Hello?", you try again. Your heart freezes at the sound of footsteps. Tentatively, you walk towards the sound. Visions of Frost Giants linger in your mind, and you almost turn back, but right before you look away, Thor storms out from behind a wall. You cover your mouth to keep from screaming. You could have sworn he was a Frost Giant! He angrily heads up a nearby staircase, and Loki appears from behind the wall soon after, looking uncomfortable."Loki!", you cry. He turns around, shocked to see you down here. "(Y/N)!", he shouts. "What are you doing here?" "I-I got worried!", you admit. "You've always told me that Frost Giants are some of the most ruthless creatures in all the realms. What if something had happened?" Loki stares at you. "(Y/N)", he says softly. "We have the Destroyer." "What if it failed?", you question him. He looks annoyed, but in an amused way. The look in his eye suddenly changes from amusement to something more intense, more tender, more... He steps closer to you, and closer, and closer until he is right in front of you. You look into his eyes, only to see the emotion is still there. Your breath catches in your throat, and your stomach starts to flutter.
"You and your 'what if's'", he barely whispers, gently brushing a strand of hair from your face. Your legs feel weak as he leans in. Your eyelids droop, and almost completely close when a sudden cry of rage is heard from upstairs, followed by a thunderous thud. Loki's lips are millimeters away from yours when he pulls away.
Your eyes open. Loki is staring at you, the countless emotions still showing in his eyes. "I must go investigate what Thor is doing", he says, running up the staircase Thor had taken minutes before. "Um..yeah", you reply, even though he's gone. Your face feels warm. After a moment of solitude, you take a deep breath.
What was that all about?
