My bus was barreling down the street. I grabbed my backpack and shot out the door, making it just in time to the bus. Our bus is always late, and the lower school bus is always on time, so the Lower School bus is trailing behind ours. I climb on, panting, and nod to our driver, Mr. Reeds. The bus is full. I'm the last stop before the school. I plop down in a seat next to Alison, my best friend. We drive in peace for the first few minutes, when BANG- the roof dents. BANG, BANG, BANG. I look out the window in panic. Huge hail balls are pelting into the bus. The windshield is cracked. Mr. Reeds pounds on the gas, instead of the break, and we lose control, speeding down the highway. We slam into a lamppost, and the bus tilts over. Weirdly, no one screams. It's like a silent movie, in slow motion. I go flying sideways, into the roof of the bus, and Alison lands on top of me. The hail balls are crashing through the windows, now the top, and I grab a fallen seat. Alison crawls under another, along with Scarlett and Sage. Sage, unfortunately, is the nearest to the window, and takes several hail balls to the head. I hear a loud, sickening crack, and she looks at me, her head broken and dented and pouring blood, before she collapses to the ground, dead. Scarlett screams. I fight the urge to throw up. Many more are dead, all over the bus, including several that are crammed in between two of the seats in front of them, and Mr. Reeds, who is crumpled between the windshield and the steering wheel, blood pouring from his head like milk from a carton. Then, I see a black liquid dripping from the front of the bus, leaking slowly to the back. I'm breathing it in, and it's making my head foggy and woozy.
"It's gasoline! Our bus is going to explode!" screams Molly, and all I can think about is that I'm ready to die.

This prologue to my story starts out pretty much the exact way the actual Monument 14 book did. I didn't know how to write it and make them end up in the same Greenways store in the same situation otherwise.
Nonetheless, I hope you enjoyed.
