Otis springs blisters all over his body, getting bigger and bigger at the moment, while he still pounds away. Molly is screaming in fear at something-- nothing. Scarlett is staring at me with wide eyes.
"Lily, watch out-" she says, just as I feel a person behind me. I'm too slow. They dig their fingernails into my scalp and punch at my arms and back. Alison. I turn quickly and grab her wrists.
"What's going on?" I yell, and Alison begins to kick, as hard as she possibly can. Otis seems to be finished, the blisters are popping and the blood is streaming down his body, and he runs past me, picks up Molly, (screaming in fright), and pushes Payton (thrashing and punching), down the hatch. Scarlett grabs Alison's legs from underneath her and we carry her down the hatch with much difficulty.
"Get some rope!" I yell to Scarlett. "I got her!"
I pin her arms behind her and she falls to the ground. Then, as a last resort, I lay across her. I'm much stronger and heavier than she is, so she doesn't get up. That doesn't mean she stops trying. By the time Scarlett arrives with some rope, I am battered and bruised from holding her down. Otis somehow closed the latch, and the door, and kept Payton at bay, while streaming bloody blisters. I tie Alison's hands and feet with the rope, and tie her to a pole outside. Otis does the same with Payton and Molly is getting better. Otis's blisters have stopped bleeding, but they are still red and swollen. When everybody is feeling better, we walk outside. All the little kids are watching Alison and Payton, just standing there out of their reach and watching them struggle and scream and grunt. Lila runs over and clings to my knees. I hold her tight. Finally, Alison shakes her head abruptly and the rage goes out of her eyes.
"Where am I? Untie me!"
Payton ceases to struggle soon after.
I make sure they're alright before I loosen the knots. Benjamin comes from the media department and says,
"There's a new program on the news."
We follow him up to the TV and gather around. A new green blob is on the screen.
"-and we have found out what the chemicals from NORAD's compound do. The effects are based on blood type. Blood type A will receive severe blisters. If exposed for more than a couple of minutes the chemicals will reach the organs. The organs will malfunction and the patient will die. Type AB bloods will experience severe hallucinations and paranoia. Type B bloods have no side effects known, except it is possible that they will suffer from "reproductive failure"."
I turn to look at Scarlett. The two known B's in Greenway so far, I guess. We might not be able to have children. Not a big deal.
"And finally, type O bloods-- the most popular-- will suffer from unstoppable rage, hatred and aggression. We suggest you stay away from these people at all costs. Stay inside and God bless you all-"
The TV runs reruns of this program over and over again. We stare at the TV. Eventually someone, maybe Payton or Alison, gets up and starts cooking. I eat absentmindedly, and turn to Otis.
"You should probably get cleaned up." I nod at his clothes-- blood covered from the blisters.
"Yeah," he says, and goes into the mens bathroom.
"I have to pee!" cries Stephen, and Scarlett brings them all-- even the boys-- into the girls restroom. And then we hear a scream. Two screams. In synchronization.****
A/N
Hi. This was kind of a short chapter. I hope you enjoyed it anyway. It's not very good, but again, the book gets better as it goes on because I actually learned how to write. :)
YOU ARE READING
Monument 13
General FictionA book based on Monument 14. Same setting and plot, different characters. Please don't hate :) this is my first book. THIS BOOK HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED. But go ahead and read it if you like, it doesn't really end on a cliffhanger. I'd enjoy feedback...
