It's widely acknowledged that Kim Kardashian West has mastered the art of the selfie—her ode to auto-portraiture, Selfish, was released earlier this year, and her Instagram account reveals a seemingly endless collection of snaps featuring KKW, shot by KKW. So when Vogue.com Style Editor Edward Barsamian caught up with the reality star yesterday, it was only natural that he requested a Kim-centric selfie of his very own. Barsamian handed over his phone (which boasts no special photography apps or features), but the device was quickly vetoed by the expert, who cited lack of lighting as her biggest grievance. And so her secret was revealed when Kardashian West grabbed her own phone, housed in a LuMee case. Lit from the front with LED strips, the case instantly brightened up the photo. "It was like night and day," says Barsamian of Kardashian West's secret weapon. "We went from being—well, me, at least—tired-looking to refreshed, awake, and beautiful, all with the simple addition of lighting around the phone." Now, if only nailing Kim's perfectly practiced poses were quite so easy.
