I yearn for more. For a better life, for a better day, for a better me.
I looked at the stars, for once the sky was clear, showing the trail of twinkling silver lights. They were majestic. So many of them yet each of them unique and special. They were similar in many ways however they had one thing that differentiated them from each other ; the way they shined.
In fact stars resemble humans so much. Aren't we all unique but so similar? It's amusing isn't it?
*thud* *thud*
Ohhh here comes the saviour of my night. Here comes the one who will not let me slip in my insanity.
He arrived, breathing hard. He had a pot in his hand and two spoons. He was wearing his favourite hoodie and a grey sweatpant. I smiled at him while moving a bit so that he could sit next to me. He handed me one spoon and the pot. I chuckled loud when I saw it was a Nutella pot. I dug my spoon in it while he made himself comfortable next to me.
"Do you think that while growing up we lose our uniqueness? I mean look at our parents, they are so similar? Do you think we will end up becoming like them?" I asked.
He closed his eyes and thought. I started licking my spoon while thinking about what I said.
What if we stop thinking about wanting happiness? What if we stop believing in a happy ending? But is there a happy ending somewhere? And if there is, is it the life the adults are living?
I rested my head on his shoulder, a bit tired, a bit afraid.
" I think there comes a time in our life where we are given a choice. Kinda of a crossroad. One is said to lead to happiness and joy but is full of sorrows and difficulties. On the other hand there is this road where the journey is easy with at its end nothing. Just a little happiness and ordinariness. This crossroad comes at a difficult time in our life, so we tend to choose what seems so easy and less triring. Maybe that's why many adults have the same boring life. They had preferred choosing the easiest way rather than the one where their dreams come true," he said.
I stared at him, pondering at what he said. Have I already made my choice? Am I already walking on a specific road?
"What is real happiness though? What is this ultimate goal we have to achieve?" I murmured. We both gaze at the stars, trying to find an answer to these questions.
We stayed silent through the whole night, gazing and eating the chocolate. The night went on until we saw the first rays of sunlight. It was another night spent without much distress. However the day ahead was a difficult one, for it was the first day of school.
At six o'clock, he smiled at me and said,"Until next night little freak, we have a day to face today, we gonna have to survive this new semester." I gave him a toothy smile in response, not really knowing what to say back. He stood up and stretched his legs while I watched him.
There goes my saviour, having again fulfilled his duty this night, still calling me his little freak, just like the old days. We will have a harsh day but hey little freak it's gonna be alright.
I went down the stairs which connected to the roof. I silently crept to my bed, hoping to get a few minutes of sleep before mother would come to wake me up.
Until then let me drift to a semblance of death.
