I roll my eyes, tightening the cap of my water bottle as the photographer paces back and forth. This is why I hated people of other professions trying to come and model. They think they're bigger than us and could come in at any time they wanted. Well, some did. Some understood, but I guess these guys didn't. I let out another breath, opening the water bottle and drinking some more water.
"Vera, please! Don't ruin your makeup!" The photographer, Tyler, says, holding his hands out as I take another sip.
I let out a sigh. "We got another ten to fifty minutes before these beloved dancers of your come, Tyler." I say, closing the water bottle. "And then they have to get dressed, and touched up. I think within that time, I can put a little lip gloss on."
"Vera." A warning voice calls out and I roll my eyes.
"Sorry." I mutter, crossing my arms. I'm nineteen years old and still have to listen to my mother. Well, she's also my agent, but still! You would think that once I moved out, she'd be a little more... I don't know, off my case. But no. She's worked too hard to get me where I'm at, and she'll be damned if I ruined this for myself.
I've been a model ever since I was thirteen. I did little photoshoots for clothing websites and I sometime did commercials for shops. Now, I basically do the same thing, but today, I'll be in magazines and on the designer's website. Which isn't new, well, the magazine part. I've been in magazines before. But I guess these dancers are my ticket to someplace higher.
Well, that's what my mother said.
"Are they here yet?" I turn to face the other model, and look her up and down. She looked so nervous.
"No." I say, shaking my head. "You aren't afraid of cameras, are you?" I ask, and her eyes widen.
"No! I'm afraid of them!" She says and I frown. "Well... not afraid... just... nervous."
"What?"
"You don't know who they are?" She asks as I walk past her and to the tables filled with snacks and the like.
"Nope." I say, looking at my choices of food.
"Les Twins." She says, as if that would jog my memory. It didn't. I still didn't know who they were. "They danced with Beyonce! They are the best dancers in the world."
"Hmm." I hum, picking up a chocolate covered strawberry. "That's cool." I take a big bite of the strawberry before placing the leaves and stuff in the trash. I hope no one saw that, my mother would kill me if she saw me eat that strawberry. She doesn't want me wasting any time reapplying my make up.
"Vera, I don't think you understand how important this is." The girl says, and I look at her. She was a brunette, her features round and soft, her skin slightly pale. She wasn't too bad, but she wasn't that great either.
"I guess I don't. In my eyes I just see two dancers that-"
"Oh, thank goodness you're here!" Tyler says, catching our attention. "I thought you two were never going to show!"
"Vera." My mother calls out, beckoning me to her. I walk over, crossing my arms. "The one with the twists is Larry. The other is Laurent." She mutters and I nod. I study the twins.
Larry could use a lot of work. He was wearing an unnecessary amount of jewelry along his wrists and fingers and a simple Versace necklace upon his neck. Laurent was the same, but he had a beaded necklace and a neck warmer.
This nigga was crazy. There was no need for a neck warmer around here, but whatever. He can do whatever he wants.
"Okay." I mutter back, still studying them. Their clothes weren't too better. They were wearing their pants backwards. Who did they think they were, Kris Kross? Well, they weren't. I'm sure of it.
