I sit down, legs crossed and eye the dancing people around me. This was the first time I've ever been to a club. It was loud and hot.
"You look like you aren't having fun." Lyric says, a smile on her face.
"I'm not." I respond back, smiling back at her. Her smile was contagious. She was such a great person. She was like a breath of fresh air to me. I needed her.
"Why don't you get a drink?"
"I'm nineteen."
"So? I bet half of these people are-" She stops, and looks past me. "Woah. Isn't that Laurent and Larry?" She asks, and I turn to look at what she was looking. "It is!" She says, and I quickly turn back around, hoping not to be seen. "Doesn't Chantal like Larry? Why is she all over Laurent?"
"What?" I ask, turning back around and looking at them. Chantal was hanging off Laurent like a monkey on a tree.
"What a hoe." Lyric says, as I still stare. "This is why people think these models are easy and give them a bad name." I continue to watch, my eyes being torn away from Laurent to Larry, who had spotted me and was looking too. I quickly turn around and put my head down.
"Why didn't you tell me Larry was staring at me?" I say, looking up at Lyric.
"He was staring at- Oh. He's staring hard." She says, and I move some of the straight hair behind my ear and hoping it'll hide my face. "Girl, your hair ain't working, that nigga coming over here, his twin and the hoe right behind him."
"Shit, shit, shit!" I hiss, grinding my teeth together.
"Look up." Lyric says, and I do. In a couple of seconds, there was Larry, standing right next to our table.
"Hey Vera." He says, and I look over to him, giving him a polite smile.
"Hi." I say. God, he looked good.
"How you been?" Laurent asks, walking closer to the table, his arm around Chantal's waist. I look at it, then look her up and down before my lips pull into a smirk. I dare this hoe to try me.
"I've been great." I say, and look over to Lyric, who had been eyeing Chantal. "This is my girl, Lyric."
"Oh, the assistant." Larry says, and Lyric shakes her head.
"Nah, I'm an agent. Tyler's my cousin."
"Oh." Laurent and Larry say, nodding.
"Hi Lyric." Chantal says, not noticing the side eye Lyric was giving her.
"Hey girl." She says, sass in her voice. Lyric was my bitch for life, I love this girl. "Vera, I'm finna go get a drink, you want something?"
"Whatever your getting." I say, looking at her. She nods and gets up, walking past us. I watch her strut in the white pleated tulle arm mini-dress that fit her like a glove. She worked that dress like it was a nine to five job.
Was that corny? Oh well, she did the fuck outta that dress.
"She's cute." Chantal says, stating the obvious. "I've never seen her outside of work, where she only wears jeans and t shirts. Larry, don't you think she's cute?"
Meddling ass bitch. I look up at Larry, who was looking at me.
"She's pretty, but I'm not surprised." He says.
"What do you mean?" I ask, tilting my head a bit.
"You only surround yourself with pretty people because you pretty yourself." He says, and I try to keep the smile off my face as butterflies fill my stomach.
