My eyes blurred and stinged in pain. The sound of my alarm clock was stinging my ears. I wasn't on my bed anymore, it seemed. Curled up in a wrap laying on the floor like a caterpillar. Soon, I'll be a butterfly, people. I sat up, rubbing my eyes and slamming the button on the alarm clock. It didn't turn off. "Shut up.." I murmured, pressing the button again and finally setting it off. I had a decision to make, If I woke up now, mom would give me a proud look and make me yummy waffles, but, If I stayed in bed, mom would probrably wake me up and make me a sloppy pancake. Basically like Life or Death choice. Life = Waffles. Death= Sloppy Pancakes. I'm not that stupid so I chose waffles. To-do list: ☑ Wake up, ☑ Take a shower ☑ Have my summer ruined.
I put on a flowery summer dress and elegant shoes. My mom wanted me to wear this to make a good first impression.
Outside, the rain was slamming on the ground and the thunder was loud and clear. Today was not going to be good.
I curled my brown hair and applied some eyeliner to make my hazel eyes pop. I glanced at the mirror and nodded. I looked better than okay, actually. I walked downstairs and my mom had made me some waffles. 8 waffles, to be exact. I stared at the tower of delicous honey goodness with my mouth hanging open. A small piece of butter melted on top and strawberries with cream were on the side of the plate. I was shocked. " Morning honey. I made waffles for you. It's a special day. " mom gave me a smile. She was wearing her fluffy pijamas and an apron with a heart on it. I rushed over and gave her a hug. "Mom, this is heaven." I told her " Oops, I think I drooled a little on your shoulder.."
Mom laughed as she pulled away from the hug. "I'm so proud of you." she whispered, holding the tears back. Oh no, here comes the rain. She pulled me back into a tight mamma bear hug. Tears were streaming down her face and she was making my dress all wet. "Mom, oh no mom, my dress!" I giggled and stroked her hair. She wiped her tears away and kissed my forehead. We sat down at the table and talked a sensible, mother-daughter talk. My mom laughed uncontrollably and ate one of my waffles. She spat a piece of waffle out and we started giggling. I finished off my plate and picked up a white jacket and an umbrella. "Here honey," mom led me outside as she carried my suitcase. I popped open my umbrella and saw the taxi driver, waiting for me. "Give Sammy a kiss for me everyday mommy. " I told her, giving her a last hug. "I'll miss you mom.." I tried to not cry.
"I will. And I'll miss you too Annabear."
I waved at her and walked off into the taxi. The taxi driver was an old man. He was wearing sensible clothes and a big smile. "Off to work, I bet?" he asked. I nodded. "My name's Gary. My grand-daughter is going off to work today too." Gary looked in the mirror and started the engine. "She's just about your age." we drove off into the rain and I saw my mom watching me and waving."I'm Annabel. Nice to meet you." I smiled. "I bet she had to wake up at 3 A.M too."
"Actually, at 2 A.M. Her mom was just like yours. She gets all angry when you beg her to stay and then she gets all mushy and sad when you leave. If crying about you going is the reason, then why did she send you to off in the first place?!" Gary had a point, mom was all angry when I didn't want to go, but then she got all soft when I was leaving. "You're right Gary." I smiled. "Noodles! I know I'm right young lady." he announced laughing an old man cough-laugh. "Oh, here's your stop. Another cab will come pick you up soon!" he stopped the car and immediatly came out of the car, rain started pouring on him. Gary opened the back and took my suitcase out. "Good luck!" Gary smiled as he entered his taxi again. I waved at him, he had just brightened up my day a little bit.
I saw other people at the train station just like me. Girls and boys were standing there with their umbrellas open and some were standing with rain hitting them and making their day worse. They all looked so depressed. They stood in a row, waiting for their taxis. A few minutes later of holding onto my suitcase and umbrella, the rain got heavier and started flying sideways. The wind whistled a tune as the trees danced to it. Slowly, a car stopped by and the window rolled down.
"Um. Excuse me, is this cab for Annabel Rose?" I asked the woman who drove the taxi. "Correct. Come on in!" she replied and come out of her car, soon opening the back of it and throwing my suitcase in. I entered the car and slammed the door shut. I was tired and could barely keep my eyes open. Laying my head by the window, I watched the road flow by and those other teenagers stare at me as we drove off. "How you holdin' up?" the woman asked, a slight interest in her tone. "Just great. My mom sent me off to work in a summer camp." I told her with sarcasm. "I know how you feel sweetheart. My mom did the same to me when I was your age. I have to tell you, it was one of the worst years of my life."
"It'll be mine too. Right now, I could be sleeping in my warm, soft bed and enjoying my summer. But noo. My mom HAD to get me a job." I complained. "Well, I did find some great friends when I was at work. But it was still pretty tiring." she said. "I'm sure you'll find some too sweetheart. I'm completely sure. Everywhere you go, there'll be a friend for you. It's like they're just waiting for you to come and enter their lives."
"Yeah.. I'm so tired..." I tried to keep my eyes open. "If you want to take a nap sweetheart, be my guest." she told me, she was a really kind woman. It all got blurry, soon enough, I was in a deep sleep.

"Hello? Hey!" I opened my eyes and saw the woman, opening the cab door. "Here's your stop honey! Now you've got a train to catch!" she let me out and shut the car door, getting my suitcase from the back then handing it to me. "Have fun!" she smiled and waved off. I waved back, smiling a little. I rushed inside the train station with my ticket at hand. I went inside the train and stuffed my suitcase underneath my seat. I slumped on my seat as I pulled out my phone. A guy about my age came and plopped down on the seat next to me. I was confused at first and gave him a weird look. He showed me his ticket and stuffed his bag underneath his seat too. "Hey.." he said as he took a glance at me. "Hi." I replied. "Where are you off to?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "A camp." I told him "What about you?"
"A summer camp." he answered. I bit my lip and nodded. "Was your mom harsh?" I asked him "Nope. My dad sent me. Said it would be a good chance for me to stop being such a lazy ass."
"Oh.." I trailed off. "What's your name?"
"My name's Lance." he told me, not taking his eyes off his phone. "I'm Annabel." I said, going back to my phone. It was a 20 minute ride on the train. Then we would arrive. The train was quite empty. Only a few people stood there. We arrived at 3:30 A.M.
"Nice suitcase you got there Annabel." he told me, taking a look at my suitcase then laughing a little. I blushed a little then slapped his shoulder. "Shut up." I hid my blush. I didn't really notice how Lance looked like until we were about to get off the train. I fluffed up my dress as I pulled out my suitcase and my umbrella. I looked at Lance and he looked at me. We stood there for a moment in silence. Lance had dark black hair that went sideways and blue eyes. "WE HAVE ARRIVED!" a woman seemed to have screamed onto the microphone. I jumped and quickly took my suitcase.
" You couldn't have just said it normally?!" I screamed at the lady who was basically not listening to me because she was a recorded message. Lance laughed and pulled out his bag. Ugh. I'm so stupid.
