+ Audrey's Point of View +
My name is Audrey Roscoe, and in your eyes I'm probably just a normal teenage girl. I have a normal family, I go to school, I hang out with my friends and I love to play the piano. I'm always happy, I sleep alot, and I love everything that has something to do with music. But I'm not normal. Because I see things. Horrible things. When I'm on my own, I'm never really alone. They're everywhere, and I don't know what they are or what they want. The only thing I know is that they're not humans. They're not even alive, and I swear, I'm not making this up. They are for real, not just a part of my fantasy. I'm not crazy! ... Or am I? Well, I don't even know anymore.
"Audrey?" Jaclyn snapped her fingers in front of my face, and I turned to her immediately.
"What?", I asked. My eyelids felt heavy. I had probably been about to fall asleep again.
"Are you okey? You seem tired... Did you have one of those nightmares again last night?", she asked quietly (since our teacher was looking straight at us) with a worried look on her face.
Nightmares... Yeah, that was the excuse I had when I was tired, and no one seemed to know that it was just a big fat lie. Sure, I had nightmares sometimes, like everyone else, but my reality scared me alot more. My life actually was a nightmare...
"Audrey!", she hissed again.
"Oh, sorry. But yeah, I had a nightmare." I nodded exaggerated.
"What was it about?", Irini asked, joining our conversation.
"Ah, you know... The usual" As soon as that came out of my mouth I wanted to give myself a big slap in the face. The usual? If I just used my brain sometimes, I'd be able to come up with much better answers. Good job, Audrey. Good job...
Irini gave me a strange look, and then Jaclyn burst out laughing. "You're so weird, Audrey! Do you know that?"
I glared at her, but after a while I couldn't help but smile.
Our teacher, Mr.Walker, sighed deeply. "Okey, students. That's it for today. Have a nice day, everyone!" All of the students stood up, got their books and left the classroom. As usual, we were the last ones to leave, and Mr.Walker stood by the door, waiting for us to go so that he could lock it and then go home.
"Dont forget to study 'til tomorrow, girls. You'll be having a big test in history, remember?"
"Ugh, I hate history", Irini muttered, and Jaclyn nodded in agreement.
"Oh really?", said Mr.Walker. "Then you probably don't know that much about history, young lady. History is one of the most fascinating and important subjects in school."
"Uh, no. History is for people who can't let go and live in the moment." And with those words, Irini dragged me and Jaclyn out of the school.
"Hi mom!", I shouted when I got inside the house.
"Hi sweetie!", she shouted back, and I could tell she was in her bedroom, getting ready for going to work. She worked night shifts at the hospital, but on tuesdays she always went to pick up her colleagues right before her shift started.
I went to the kitchen, getting myself a glass of juice, and then I walked towards the living room. The TV was already on, so I sat down in the sofa and zapped to MTV. Ed Sheeran's music video to Give Me Love were on, but I had already seen it twice before I went to school this morning. But oh well, I didn't mind. I loved Ed and his music.
"Bye honey, see you tomorrow! And don't stay up too late, okey?" My mom kissed me on my cheek, gave me a hug and then she left my room.
"I promise!", I shouted after her. As soon as she left, I stood up and went to the room where we had our piano. Daddy and my little sister Hailee was outside, playing, because today the weather actually was pretty nice. I sat down by the piano, letting my fingers move across the piano keys and started singing for myself.
"Sometimes I wish
We could just love
The way we did
When we weren't grown-up
All these things I do
They're never quite enough
And I've nothing to prove
I'm all out of luck
So I'll keep running into the rain
Heart first, head second, I'm away
I'll keep running. running away
With my heart there for you to take
So make me fall in love
Even if I get hurt
I'll be the only fool in the world
Just make me fall in love
In love, in love, in love
In love, in love, in love
In love, in love, in love
Just make me fall in love."
I stopped singing and stared down at my hands. I was a hundred percent sure that someone had been singing with me in the chorus... But I was the only person inside the house, and I had never heard my dad sing but I could tell that it wasn't him I'd been hearing. I hesitated for a moment, maybe it was one of all the 'things' I'd been seeing lately...? Wait, no... It couldn't be. They couldn't even speak, could they? And even less sing? Maybe I just imagined that someone was singing with me, because I had never heard such an angelic voice...
The sun had set a long time ago, and now I was sitting by my desk, studying for the big history test we were about to have tomorrow. Hailee was asleep, daddy was watching the news, and I sat here in my room, all alone. My phone buzzled, and I had a new message from Jaclyn.
From: Jaclyn :)
"How's the studying going? Dying over here -__- x"
I was just about to answer when I heard something really strange. Someone was playing the piano... It wasn't my dad, he didn't know how to play, and Hailee was still asleep. And three years old, and no lil' kid can play like that?
The melody seemed familiar, and after a while I realized that this someone was playing the song I sang a few hours ago. Make Me Fall by Nina Nesbitt. Hmm... Really strange.
"That sounds beautiful, Audrey! But do you really have to play now? Hailee is sleeping!", my father shouted from the living room. Yeah, welcome to my family. Always shouting. No one ever had the urge to go and talk with each other, so we just shouted if we wanted something.
"Thanks!", I shouted back. I didn't really know what to do. I couldn't really tell him that it wasn't me...? Instead of actually doing something, I just sat there, listening to the song. But after a while I decided to actually go and see what was going on. I picked up my phone and left the room. The closer I came, it became more clear that someone was singing too.
"So I'll keep running into the rain
Heart first, head second, I'm away
I'll keep running, running away
With my heart there for you to take..."
There was that angelic voice again! I was a bit scared, but I just had to see what this creature with that beautiful voice looked like. I peered out from behind the door frame, and when I looked into the room, my eyes widened...
