Chapter two
It was five in the afternoon and Gaia and Coby were both exhausted. Neither of them had closed their eyes, to afraid that the stranger would suddenly stop breathing. Coby, although she was so young, had managed to get the man's bleeding under control, and wrapped his wounds, while Gaia fought with herself to do the right thing and call the cops.
The last couple of hours had been so weird, and frightening that she didn't know what to make of it. The only thoughts that were now running through her head, was what had the gotten himself into? Was there some type of wild animal that had done this to him? Thinking back that was the only logically explanation that she could come up with. After all, they had been driving down a narrowed road, with nothing surrounding it, but forest and plenty of trees.
Looking over, Gaia found Cody fast asleep in the next bed to her. She had grabbed Gaia's jacket and was now wrapped securely in it, with her body propped up. Gaia, couldn't sleep. She was so surprised that Coby had finally fallen asleep, because the young girl was just on high alert a couple of hours ago. Gaia was happy that at least one of them had fallen asleep, though she found it hard for herself to do the same.
She didn't feel right, going to sleep and missing the chance to question the guy who was seriously wounded. She wanted to know if something attacked him, and she wanted to know if he was with anyone else.
A couple more hours passed and Gaia, who was now standing by the window looking out at the setting sun, sighed heavily and crossed her arms. She felt her eye growing tired from exhaust, and she couldn't control the loud yearn that escaped her lips.
It wasn't until Gaia heard the sound of a low growl that caused her body to stiffen up, and her attention to become very alert of everything around her. She wasn't the only one who heard it. Turning her attention to Coby, who had now been sitting up in the bed looking around wildly.
"What was that?" Coby asked.
Gaia slowly shook her head, and opened her mouth so she could respond. But before she could do anything, both girls heard the soft murmur of the stranger in the room.
"What did he say?" Gaia asked eyeing Coby to see if she had gotten a better understanding.
Coby shrugged, reaching up and pulling Gaia's jacket off of her. Scooting over to the edge of the bed, Coby stood up and slowly made her way to the stranger, as Gaia did the same. Both girls kneeled down and listened in as they tried to pick up what the stranger was saying.
Coby took note, of his overheated body. He had drops of sweat pouring down his body, and she was pretty sure that were he lay, was soaked from the amount of sweat there.
Leaning in closer Coby looked over to Gaia and meant her soft brown eyes.
"Run." The stranger breathed out in a soft short breath. "We....keep movi..."he breathe.
"I think he's trying to wake up." Coby said looking at his fluttering closed eye lids.
"Sir?" Gaia asked reaching over and taking his hand in hers. "Sir can you hear me?"
At the sound of her voice, the man slowly moved his head over to her, not quiet opening his eyes, just softly swaying his head back in forth.
"Kendall." He breathe out in short faint breathe.
Gaia made eye contact with Coby before continuing. "Sir if you can hear me, squeeze my hand." She said waiting patiently for him to respond to her. After a couple of seconds she felt a firm squeeze on her hands and let out a soft breath. "Good."
"Kendall." The man repeated a couple of more times, never letting go of Gaia's hand. It took a while but the stranger finally came through opening his eyes slowly.
