"If there's food I'm in." George stated, once I had told the boys about the BBQ on the beach.
"Yeah sounds good." JJ chimed in.
"We don't have anything else planned, so why the hell not!" Jaymi grinned, speaking for himself and Olly.
At about 7 o clock we got dressed and headed down to the beach, I hadn't anticipated the fact that we actually knew nobody except Lula. This could be awkward.
We stood awkwardly on the beach for a while, JJ whipped out his phone and started scrolling through some website. Jaymi and Olly were smiling, they always managed to hide how awkward a situation was. George literally just giggled. That boy.
"Hola!" A Tall, tanned man appeared in front of us, he looked very Spanish and another thing occurred to me, not only do we not know these people, but we also do not speak their language...
"HOLA!" Olly grinned in reply, with possibly the most English sounding accent you could possibly put on a Spanish word.
The man obviously registered that we were English an he chuckled a bit, "sorry, I didn't realise you we're english," I was surprised to hear him speak english, although his Spanish accent was still strong, "let me get you a drink!"
We followed the man over to a small bar on the beach, he leant against the bar and ordered 5 beers from the blonde bombshell behind it. She bought back the beers and winked as she took his money.
"So how long are you staying?" The man asked.
"Just a week." Jaymi smiled, "sorry I don't think we caught your name?"
"Moses," the man replied, "and yours are?"
"I'm Jaymi, this is Olly, George, JJ, and Josh." He gestured as he introduced each of us. Moses' eyes widened as Jaymi said my name.
"You are Josh?" He asked cautiously. I nodded. "Ahhh you should have said, I will go and find Talulah."
The man trotted off and returned with Lula by his side and Amy in his arms.
"I'm so glad you could make it!" Lula smiled as she hugged me tightly. She hugged each of the boys too.
"Thanks for the invite." I smiled back.
"OSH!" Amy yelled.
"Hey monkey!" I grinned as Moses put Amy down and she stumbled towards me.
"OSH!" she repeated as she wrapped her arms around my legs. I picked her up off the ground and rested her on my hip.
"Are you the pretty girl Josh won't stop talking about then?" George cooed, tickling Amy's tummy. I laughed and glanced over to Lula, who swiftly blushed.
There were orders to turn the music up and get the party started, the orders were followed with no hesitation. There was food and drinks and loud music. Everybody was dancing and laughing until well into the night. At about 3 am, people began to say their goodbyes and drift away from the beach.
"I think we're gonna head home mate." Jaymi announced. I looked over and saw Lula picking up empty bottles and tossing them into a black bin bag.
"Ok I'm going to stay an help clear up but i'll see you all back there yeah?" I handed George the keys and said goodnight to the boys.
"You don't have to stay you know." Lula smiled as I walked over and began helping her pick bottles up from the sand.
"I don't mind," I smiled back, "you can go if you want, take Amy back home?"
"She's ok, she only sleeps when there's noise around her." Lula replied, looking over to her baby girl who was fast asleep in a pram beside the bar, "strange kid that one!"
I laughed quietly, "I don't know how you do it you know!"
"Do what?"
"You make it all look so easy! You're a young, single mum yet you still manage to go out and enjoy yourself and make life seem so effortless!" I admired.
"Strange how things can look from the outside." She said simply, her voice shaking slightly.
"Well for what it's worth, I think you're doing an incredible job." I smiled.
"Thank you Joshua."
Once we had finished clearing the bottles away, we found a small hill on the sand and sat down, looking over the ocean as the stars glittered in reflection on the water. Lula had Amy on her lap and was speaking quietly to her in Spanish. Amy reached over and grabbed my finger, I let her guide it towards the sky.
"Star." She said, grinning widely.
"She loves the sky, especially at night," Lula explained, "that's why I don't mind her staying up late, it fascinates her."
"What about you?" I asked.
"What about me?"
"What fascinates you?"
There was a long pause.
"Ants." She replied.
"Ants?!" I repeated, surprised. She giggled a bit.
"Think about it," she explained, "they're so tiny, yet they manage to carry their own body weight and more to their colony in order to feed the rest of the community. A colony of ants works in perfect harmony, they are such simple creatures but they have everything so sorted."
Wow. I had never even thought about ants in any way except a kind of 'get off me' way, but the way Lula spoke made me think a lot.
"You're amazing" I whispered, it wasn't actually supposed to come out, I have a nasty habit of thinking aloud.
"Sorry?" She asked, I wasn't sure if she'd heard me.
"I said you're amazing." I smiled.
Author's note: hello again! So although this chapter wasn't that eventful I put it in because I thought something cute needed to happen. I hadn't intended on Moses being in this story but it just kind of happened so who knows, he may be making a reappearance?!
