Another update! Yay! Hope you enjoy.

The (family) drama is starting to set in... And yes, I feel sorry for Jade, but she can't have a perfectly happy life. That would be too unrealistic.

So, say goodbye to Anja...

(It's not going to be forever!)

***

When I returned to the Common Room, it was eight-thirty and most students below OWL year had retreated to their rooms.

Draco was still out, and I nodded at him as I walked past. He nodded back at me wordlessly.

Although I had study to do, I decided to go read in my dorm for a little while – I'd wake up early to study anyway.

As silently as possible, I crept up the steps to my dorm, which contained Anja, Pansy, Millicent, Evangeline and me. I quickly and quietly changed out of my robes, before slipping into my bed. At the point where I was about to fall asleep, I was woken loudly.

"Lumos!"

A girl with short black hair tumbled onto my bed. I cursed loudly, then realised that it was about 10pm.

"Anja!" I shout-whispered. "What are you doing on my bed?"

She retorted, "What are you doing here?"

I could tell she was angry, and my twin sister didn't get angry often.

"Um, excuse me, this happens to be my dormitory!"

"Yeah, so why are you only here now? Where were you from, oh, I don't know, 6:30 to now?"

I struggled to remember my lies, realising how much trouble I was in. "Oh, I was, um, in the library, busy doing, uh, schoolwork." I was a pathetic liar, and Anja could tell.

"No, no you weren't. Where were you?"

I sighed. "I was meeting with Father."

Something in her green eyes shifted, and her expression changed. "Right. Of course you were meeting with Father. And what on Earth were you meeting about?" she demanded suspiciously.

I didn't know whether she actually believed me or not, but I couldn't risk telling her the truth, either way.

It was for her own protection, after all.

"I'm honestly not allowed to tell you, I swear. It's for your own safety," I told her honestly.

Anja snorted derisively.

"Right. I'm sure."

"Anja, believe me! I was meeting Father, but I can't tell you why. If you knew, it would only put you in greater danger."

I guess Anja saw something in my face, because her eyes widened. "I believe you. But I've just got one question for you – why does Father always want to talk to you?"

"I am his daughter, you know," I replied spitefully, by instinct, but regretted the words as soon as they were out of my mouth.

She glared, eyes full of hate. "I'm his daughter too...but I guess it was always pretty clear who his favourite was."

With that, Anja walked away, back to her bed.

I knew this was all my fault, so I had to try and apologise.

"Anja, wait! I'm –"

But Anja turned out her wand light.

"Nox. Goodnight, Jade." Her voice trembled once, and she sounded angry.

And I was left alone in the darkness.
