Feelings

Chapter 4: Heat

[This takes place in the month between the Court Hearing and The Expeditions in the wild]

Mikasa was sitting down for lunch alone again, except for Armin. Eren wasn't here again! This made four days in a row. 

She had remembered talking to Captain Levi about allowing Eren to sit with her during lunch. That much she was sure about. Had he gone back of our agreement? She had no idea.

"What's the matter Mikasa?" Armin asked between bites.

"Its just... Eren, again." She sighed. She had already let Armin in on what went on between her an Eren. He was fully aware of their relationship and how delicate it was. He also knew that it would be extremely strong if they actually spent more time together.

 She was so sure that Eren would see her if he could. That meant that something or someone was holding him back. She might have to go and investigate during her lunch break. Armin perked his head up.

"I know what you are thinking. Its a bad idea." Armin said to her.

"Are you suddenly a titan too? Can you smell what I'm about to do?" Mikasa asked sarcastically.

"No. I've been with you for five years. I'm pretty sure I know what you are thinking." Armin finished his soup and used his hand to wipe his mouth off. He stood up and said "Ok, lets go."

Mikasa smiled. She knew Armin would do anything that a friend could to help her out. She loved him as a friend and he was as close to family as she had besides Eren. 

Mikasa walked back to the castle that the survey corps was using as its headquarters. As soon as she entered the building, something seemed wrong. There weren't any people in the lobby. No guards stood at the doors of Erwin's office. As she looked around she could see some people hanging out by the top of the stairs that led to the basement where Eren was being held. 

'Oh, no.' She thought to herself. This couldn't be good. She walked right past the people at the top of the stairs and Armin trailed behind her. At the bottom of the stairs, stood Levi, Hanji, and three others of Levi's squad.

"I say we just end it right now." A tall man said towards Levi.

"That's not how this works! He's just probably scared!" A redheaded girl piped at him.

"We stick to orders. If he transforms, we put him down. Nothing else. Now I suggest you step off the subject." Levi said darkly. The tall man backed off, looking chastened. 

"I just hope this is what I think this is!" Hanji said gleefully.

"I just hope it isn't..." Levi muttered.

Everyone heard Mikasa and Armin walk down the stairs and the eyes of the group turned to face Mikasa and Armin. Levi didn't looked surprised. Neither did Hanji. 

"I wondered when you were going to show up." Levi said obviously bored.

"What does that mean?" Mikasa asked.

"I was wondering when you were going to question his unexpected absences." 

"Oh."

Hanji walked up to Mikasa and held her in a gaze with her caring eyes.

"Mikasa... this is going to be hard for you to do... But I will tell you what I think might be going on." Hanji gave her a reassuring nod. Mikasa was now as obviously confused as Levi was bored.

"You see, you've already noticed that Eren hasn't been showing up to your lunch meetings... and well that was really his choice. He's going through something I like to call, an extreme hormone dose. I believe its proof enough that, indeed, his titan form is going into heat." Hanji finished.
