Looking at some of my old works, I had awful grammar back then. One thing I want to go over first is how to write a dialogue.
Incorrect
"Firestorm wants you on the dawn patrol" Mistheart mewed, "He doesn't like waiting".
Correct
"Firestorm wants you on the dawn patrol," Mistheart mewed. "He doesn't like waiting."
What was wrong
Okay, so what I did wrong was not including commas and when I did, I used them incorrectly. ALWAYS put commas after the first part of the dialogue. I did it correctly in the second, correct version. After mewed, you put a period after that before continuing on the second part of your dialogue.
This is how a typical conversation in the books goes down:
"Firestorm wants you on the dawn patrol," Mistheart mewed. "He doesn't like to be kept waiting."
Cinderpool yawned and blinked open her eyes. "Ugh...why now Mistheart?"
The pale grey tom rolled his eyes."Because he knows you're a pain in the tail and needs to be woken up early."
I probably should get up, Cinderpool thought to herself. Firestorm will bite my ears off if I ignore him. The dark grey tabby got sleepily to her paws. "Yeah I'm coming."
Another thing I want to point out is about how thoughts in the books are written in Italics. Italics are that slightly slanted I in your tool bar for those of you on mobile, like me. For folks on the computer, you highlight some text you want to Italicize and right click to get the option. You tap on the I that should be a dark blue to get out of Italics.
How to write names,
I've seen this way to much on the internet. People writing names like TigerStar and FireClaw. I SWEAR TO GOD DO NOT DO THIS OR ELSE YOU WILL ANNOY THE LIVING HECK OUT OF YOUR AUDIENCE.
It's Tigerstar and Fireclaw, not tigerstar or fireclaw or TigerStar and FireClaw.
Also, when writing clan names, it's ThunderClan. Not Thunderclan or thunderclan.
When your referring to cats that are part of a clan, don't say ThunderClanners. You say ThunderClan cats.
Prey and stuff is spelled without caps such as vole or fox unless it is part of a cat's name. In that case you would capitalize it like in Volesnout or Foxgaze.
