Everything was white but slowly coming into focus. My ears were ringing like they never had before. It could only be described as extremely painful. However, painful was only the beginning of what I was experiencing. My chest felt like it was having multiple attacks all at once if that were even possible. Someone spoke at the sound of my moan and movement. Was this what death felt like? If so, I wish I was still alive and just like that I recovered. It was as if my wanting to be alive allowed me to wake. I could open my eyes, hear perfectly and the pain disappeared just as quickly as the bullet killed me. I searched the room which was very musty and found a man standing by a window. The man looked the same age as my brother who I hoped to never see again.

“Aveline, are you alright?” the man asked me as he walked closer and into the light. I could see his face and he definitely was not my brother. He had black coloured hair and had an expression that clearly implied that he cared. “You’re not dead if that’s what is on your mind”, he smiled showing his white teeth. As I became aware of his features, his skin seemed to be covered in a veil of something that looked like energy.

“What’s wrong with your skin?” I asked while feeling a breakdown approaching. I couldn’t cope with this. First, I came back from the dead and now this man’s skin was turning different colours in different places.

“There is nothing wrong with my skin. All your senses have been heightened as a result of Oliver’s attempt to kill you. You can see my aura”, he laughed at the first thing I had to say.

“Okay, I can see your aura because that’s heaps normal. My name is Acacia by the way, not Aveline”, I told him sarcastically finally getting to my feet. I expected to feel dizzy and light headed but I felt normal as if I were just standing up from watching television. “Why did you call me Aveline? An old man called me by the same name”, I said. He smiled kindly and slowly approached me so we were only a metre apart. He tilted his head.

“That old man was your biological father”, he told me quietly with loud concern in his voice that mimicked how Oliver’s sounded when waking me from my horrific dreams. My tears started again as this was way too much for me to handle at once. I span around on my heel and quickly stormed out of the dull room.

I walked into the library that smelled of books and knowledge. I walked straight up to the librarian named Katell who looked startled at my approach but soon composed herself to look ready to help. I only just made it to the library as I could barely see anything but bright colours on every person’s bare skin I could see. It was as bright as the sun. However, I could not see Katell’s aura.

“Acacia, can I help you with something?” she smiled kindly but seemed more cautious than the last time we met. I frowned back at her while leaning on the desk for support. I was breathing very deeply now.

“Where is your aura?” I demanded loudly which made heads turn and faces frown in our general direction. I quickly brought my hands to my mouth, as I should not have revealed my reasons for coming, so fast. I probably sounded completely delusional.

“It is you”, she said almost in awe as her eyes widened. I frowned back at her. How does she know anything about me? The only time we met was when she explained the story to me and I borrowed the book. “I have been waiting for you” she said cryptically.

“Who are you?” I asked extremely cautious after what had just happened. She smiled and guided me over to a table where no one would hear our conversation.

“I think the question is ‘who are you?’” she said. I sat down and thought about what she said for a moment. Who am I? I don’t even know who I am anymore.

“Do you know who I am?” I ask confused. She frowned for a moment.

“Yes”, she simply said. She did not explain any further until I raised my eyebrows urging her to expand. “You are the daughter from the book and you are the only one who can save us all from the coming apocalypse”, she said without bothering to ease me into the idea. I sat in my plastic chair without twitching or blinking. How could I be the daughter? If what she said was true then I should be dead. Everything was changing so fast and I couldn’t understand why. Then I realised maybe I should listen to her. Everything may’ve been changing but she would be the only one to explain why.
