It was seven o’clock and I was as tired as any other morning but unlike any other morning I couldn’t get back to sleep. I walked down the stairs to find my mother in the kitchen making pancakes, eggs, bacon and, luckily for Katell, coffee. Great, she was doing the cooking thing again. This was her way of dealing with the circumstances and I wasn’t about to complain because mum’s cooking was the best. I followed the smell that was wafting through the house and it looked like I wasn’t the only one who caught the delicious breakfast filling their hungry nostrils. “Wow, Ms Carter, that smells amazing”, Katell said as she wandered over to the kitchen table. Mum looked startled. I totally forgot that mum had no idea what happened last night and there was no need to worry her now.

“Thank you, who are you?” mum asked as kindly as possible after seeing a complete stranger in her house.

“Sorry mum, you were sleeping and I didn’t want to wake you. This is Katell, she’s a friend. She stayed the night because, well, there was a little incident last night with Oliver”, I said the last bit slowly.

“Oh, it’s not a problem. What happened?” She asked. I stood there and blinked. That was an odd reaction. “Katell, would you like some food or coffee?” mum asked quickly as if she didn’t really want an answer to her previous question. Katell grinned and she rushed toward her daily intake of caffeine.

“Thank you so much. It all looks great”, she said. I laughed. “Oh, by the way Acacia, we have a big day ahead of us. You have to speak to the Plutonium’s”, she said through slurps of coffee and bites of bacon. I sat down in the seat next her and stared in shock. What was she talking about? She saw my look of pure horror and said, “Don’t worry. They have been looking forward to meeting you for a long time. You’re like a god to them.” She stopped eating as she realised the irony in what she had said. “Actually, you are a god”, she said.

I looked at mum to see where her mind was but she was listening attentively as if this was a normal event in our lives. “Mum?” I said questionably and with loud concern.

“It’s fine honey, you go”, she said. I continued to stare at her. Everything was changing but why was she not more torn up about it than she should’ve been. She caught my expression and as though she knew exactly what I was thinking she said, “You don’t have to worry about me, I’m fine. Oliver has what he wants from me. He won’t be coming back”.

She was right and as he already had the sword there was no reason for him to harm her.

“What do you mean, ‘speak to the Plutonium’s’”, I asked Katell nervously.

“All you have to do is let them know that your mind is in the game and that you want to end the war as much as they do”, she said before adding, “however, I wouldn’t mention your other abilities to them”. This made me nervous. What if they found out? Would they try and kill me? Would they see me as a threat?

“Okay”, I said as simply as possible. I wandered out onto the front porch with Katell and with mum walking behind us. Kadar, who was rising to his feet, turned to approach us. I stopped in front of him and waited for him to speak but it was Katell who spoke.

“She is ready to speak with them”, she said. Kadar nodded and offered his hand and waited patiently for me to consider whether I should take it or not. After a moment I thought it best to take it. “I’ll stay here with your mother Acacia. Good luck”, she said and not a moment later we were standing on the same oval I trained on. The teleportation took me by surprise. I didn’t realise you could take someone with you.

“Show yourselves my friends”, Kadar yelled across the wide space. What on earth was he doing? He was yelling at nothing. However, no more than five seconds later, people began to appear but not as if they had teleported. It was more as if they were invisible and they were standing there all along. “This is Aveline”, Kadar spoke loudly. They gasped in awe and bent down on one knee before me. Were they bowing? Why were they bowing? I didn’t understand. “They’ve been waiting for you, for thousands of years. They have full faith in you”, he whispered into my ringing ear. I had every intention of preventing this war and I explained this to them but now the pressure was on. I couldn’t let them down.
