Shawn's POV
I woke up this morning and put on a clean shirt, pants, and combed my hair thoroughly. I also put on extra cologne. (Authors Note- Sorry, don't really know what guys do to get ready in the morning.) After I finished breakfast I called out to my mom, "Mom! I'm going to the new neighbors next door to give the daughter a tour of Canada." "K, honey."
"Wow", I thought to myself. That was easy to convince her. She's one of those moms who are a little over protective about their kids. I know, lucky me.
Slowly, I walked up to Kylie's door, and knocked on it. My hands were growing clammy, so I rubbed them on my pants. Why was I so nervous?
A lady in her late 30's opened the door.
"Hi Mrs. umm" I realized I didn't know Kylie's last name,
"Benner. But please, call me Mary." She said shaking my hand.
"You must be Shawn, Karen Mendes's kid."
"Yes ma'am."
"Aww, you're so polite. Are you looking for Kylie? She told me about you."
Huh, Kylie talked to her mom about me? I wonder what she said.
Remembering she asked me a question, I answered, "Yes. If she's busy that's fine. I was just going to give her a tour of Ontario and answer any questions she has about the town." I also wanted to know more about her, but her mom didn't need to know that.
"She's not busy at all. Here, come on in." Kylie's mom answered.
I walked into a house filled with cardboard boxes. I guess they hadn't finished unpacking yet. I wonder where Kylie's dad is. Does she have a dad? I followed Mrs. Benner into the kitchen, where I saw Kylie back turned eating cereal at the counter. She had her hair in a messy bun, and was wearing red and black plaid pj pants with a white shirt. When she heard her mom and I walk in, she turned around and jumped a little letting out a shriek.
"Gosh, Shawn. You scared me. Mom, you didn't tell me that Shawn was here. I could have gone up to change and look more presentable." She gave her mom a pouty face and turned to face me.
But really, I don't understand what she means by looking presentable. How did she not see she looked good? In her pajamas, she looked adorable and as her eyes looked into mine, I couldn't help but wonder how the green was so piercing and showed so much emotion, and if she saw what I felt when I saw her. Her pouty face didn't help at all to make her less adorably cute. I quickly looked away from her eyes not wanting her to see how I felt towards her and I looked at the ground.
"Kylie, Shawn wanted to show you around Ontario, isn't that nice?" Mrs. Benner asked, noticing the awkward silence.
"Yeah mom, it is. Let me go upstairs and change." Kylie said.
I looked up and saw Kylie's confused face looking at me and her eyes filled with an emotion, I didn't really see what it was. She quickly turned around and ran upstairs to get ready.
"Mrs. Benner, what time should I drop Kylie off?" I asked her mom turning to her.
"Kylie should have her phone with her, she can just text me when she's coming back." Mrs. Benner replied with a cheerful voice.
"Ok" and I was about to walk out of the kitchen and wait for Kylie when her mom stopped me.
"Shawn. Wait." I stopped and looked at her.
"Please take care of my daughter. She hasn't really had a friend in a while besides me. And I think that you would make a great friend for her. She's gone through a lot."
"Of course, I would never dream of hurting her." I responded.
I wonder what she's gone through.
"I think you guys would look cute together also." Mrs. Benner said.
I felt my ears burn up and my cheeks grow pink. I didn't know how to respond.
I felt steps coming from the stair way and realized that Kylie was ready.
Oh, good, It was getting kind of awkward.
Kylie's POV
I was not expecting Shawn to be in my kitchen. I sort of freaked out. When he looked away, I was transfixed by his chocolate eyes, and how gorgeous they were. But then, he looked ashamed at looking at me and looked down. That hurt. He was ashamed of seeing me? When my mom explained he was giving me a tour, I was surprised and confused, because I thought he wouldn't want to be seen with me. When he looked back up, I tried to erase the hurt in my eyes and quickly went upstairs to change.
As I finished changing, I stepped out, but stopped myself when I heard Shawn and my mom's conversation.
"Please take care of my daughter. She hasn't really had a friend in a while besides me. And I think that you would make a great friend for her. She's gone through a lot." Oh my gosh. My mom did not just say that. Ugh, I don't want him to treat me like a different person just because my dad is gone. I waited to hear Shawn's response.
"Of course, I would never dream of hurting her." Aww, he's so sweet.
"I think you guys would look cute together." My mom told him. I felt my cheeks turn pink and wondered how he would respond to that.
I waited a few moments, but he never said anything. Was that bad? I slowly walked down the stairs, realizing that I had enough of them talking about me.
Shawn saw me and smiled. Well, guys are all around really confusing. But his smile was so sincere and adorable, that I couldn't help but smile also. I hope I see that smile again.
"You guys have a fun time." My mom shouted out the door at us.
"We will mom." I replied. Shawn and I walked over to his house to get his car. This is going to be an adventure. Good or bad, who knows..
