Chapter 35

The music was amazing and kept blending seamlessly from one song to the next. Time passed in a memorable mixture of fun and laughter as the group slowly unwound after the tumultuous and difficult weeks that had recently passed for all of them. Adele's date seemed to be going well. The couple had started off with fun, lively dancing and were now moving a little more slowly and more intimately, her arms around his neck and their eyes finding each other often as they talked above the noise of the room. Sierra was pretty sure that the teen was going to get her wish before the night ended. She glanced at the clock and realised that, not only was it getting pretty late, but it was almost time for her to keep and eye on Luc. After another shooter, she made her way over to the restrooms to freshen up before she had to join herself to an unwitting Luc for the next hour or so.

She was surprised to find Senka there - she'd barely seen her the whole evening - and the two stood side-by-side as they checked over their appearances.

"Who is the kid with Adele," Senka asked guardedly.

"Her date," Sierra admitted. "We're all keeping an eye on them, but it looks like things are heating up fast. I'd better get back. I'm on Luc watch next. We don't want him to stop her from having a little fun. You'll help keep an eye on Adele, wont you?" she asked, "the last thing we want is for her to end up in a situation she is uncomfortable with."

Senka smiled as she dug her lipstick out her clutch purse. "Adele would make mincemeat out the boy if he even tried. But yes, of course I'll make sure that never happens," she replied.

Sierra smiled appreciatively and headed back outside. She hadn't gone far from the door when she nearly bumped right into Adele and Bastian. She wasn't sure where they were heading, but she was pretty sure it was somewhere dark and secluded. She frowned a little at the young man at Adele's side.

"Sierra!" Adele noted with glee. "This has been the best night ever!"

"I'm glad you're having fun," Sierra replied with an easy smile. Her eyes flickered over to Bastian to get her first proper look at the young man.

"Sierra, this is Bastian. Bastian - meet my friend Sierra," Adele introduced politely.

Sierra stuck out her hand in greeting and he took it. Bastian gave her one of those gentle, floppy-fish handshakes that are meant to be a polite consideration of a lady's delicateness.

If he thinks we're that gentle, he'd better watch out with Adele!

A little smile crept over her lips as she thought over what Senka had just said in the bathrooms.

Just then, Senka headed out the bathrooms and met up with them.

"And this is Senka. Senka, this is Bastian," Adele informed her.

She nodded at him in courteous recognition, then smiled evilly and leaned closer to him.

"Hurt her and I'll break your neck," she growled menacingly.

With her Russian accent and no-nonsense demeanour, the threat sounded deadly. Bastian's eyes popped wide open in alarm and Sierra had to hold back from chuckling to herself. Senka threw him one last, meaningful look, then continued on her way.

Well I guess there's more than one way to make sure a guy behaves himself...

Poor Adele cringed at her boyfriend's side and looked at him apologetically.

"Senka is just very protective," Sierra remarked, trying to help her young friend smooth the situation over a little. Adele glanced at her thankfully.
