**Four Months Later**

September has finally arrived, and it's hard to believe how much has changed in such a short span of time! Looking back over the last few months feels like a blur, filled with unexpected twists and turns. I haven't spent much time with Edie lately—she's been busy with school prep and other commitments—but I've been hanging out more with Alec since Kay jetted off to Australia to visit her aunt for the summer. There's something monumental I've been keeping under wraps: neither my family nor Kay has any idea that I'm pregnant! With the new school year about to kick off in just a week, I'm gearing up to finally spill the beans to Kay, and the anticipation is almost unbearable.

Karter: Hey! Meet me at the ice cream shop? 🍦

Kay: Absolutely! Can't wait to catch up! See you soon!

Karter: Great! I'm really looking forward to it!

As I grab my bag and prepare to leave, I call out to my mom, "Hey, Mom, I'm heading out to meet Kay!"

She glances up from her cooking, her brow furrowing slightly in concern. "Alright, but don't be gone too long; your brothers are coming over for dinner!"

"Don't worry, I won't!" I reassure her, though a part of me feels a bit strange without my brothers around. They finally moved into their own apartment just a few weeks ago, and while I'm excited for them, I miss the daily banter and chaos we used to share. Still, I'm looking forward to reconnecting with Kay and sharing my big news.

When I arrive at the ice cream shop, the familiar bell above the door jingles, and I scan the bustling crowd in search of her face. Finally, I spot Kay's bright smile cutting through the warmth of the afternoon sun. "Hey! How was Australia?" I greet her, my excitement bubbling like the ice cream we're about to devour.

"It was absolutely amazing!" she beams, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "The beaches were stunning, and I got to try some of the best ice cream ever!"

"Sounds incredible! I had a pretty good summer too, but there's something important I need to tell you." My heart races; this is it.

"Okay, spill it!" she urges, her curiosity evident in the way she leans forward.

"I know this is going to blow your mind, but... I'm going to be a mom!"

"Wait, WHAT? You're joking, right?!" Her eyes widen in disbelief.

"I'm dead serious! I'm five months pregnant, and you're the ONLY person in the world who knows!" The confession feels like both a weight lifted and a new burden to carry.

"Wait, do you know who the father is?" she asks, her brows knitting in concern.

"No, it was kind of a surprise from the party on the last day of school," I admit, embarrassment creeping in as I remember that wild night.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" she exclaims, her expression shifting from shock to sympathy.

"It's okay. Honestly, I'm just doing my best to figure it all out," I reply, trying to reassure her—and myself.

"That's great! And don't worry; I'm here for you no matter what." Her words wrap around me like a warm hug, easing some of my anxiety.

"Thanks, that means so much! Do you know the baby's gender yet?" I ask, my excitement creeping back in.

"No, I find out in three days!" I say, feeling a rush of anticipation. The thought fills me with hope as I picture what could be in store for me.

"That's incredible! I want to know what it is first!" she insists, grinning.

"Deal! But I really need to head back soon; the twins are coming over."

"Alright, I'll catch you later! Can't wait to hear all about it!" she calls out as I wave goodbye.

When I finally get home, the atmosphere is lively and a bit chaotic. "Mom? Dad? Jake? Jack? Anyone home?" I call out, my voice echoing through the hallway.

"In the kitchen!" Jack's voice shouts back amidst the sounds of sizzling and clattering pots.

"Oh, perfect! What's cooking?" I ask as I make my way to the warm, inviting kitchen filled with delicious smells.

"We're having Mom's homemade pizza!" he exclaims, and I can practically feel my mouth watering at the thought.

"By the way," I begin, taking a breath to steady my racing heart, "can I have a word with you two?" I glance over at Jake, who is busy spreading sauce over the dough, while Jack is organizing toppings. Excitement and nerves mingle within me as I prepare to share my big news, ready to unveil the secret that will change everything.
