Chapter 1

So this is going to be a new start. No one to remind me about my past every 5 minutes: Just me and a new start.

“Isabella, you ready?” My mum asked from my doorway. I smiled at her and nodded. I looked around my empty room one last time before following my mum out of my room and down the stars. “The plane leaves in 2 hours so we better get going.” My mum continued.

“Okay.” I said, grabbing my bag and shutting the door behind my mum and I. The taxi was waiting outside the house for us. I sat in the backseat with mum and looked out the window watching my past, my old life, being left behind.

I, Isabella Imogen Marie am moving to the Gold Coast in Australia with my mum to get away from the memories of my ex step-dad. I know you are all probably wondering what happened to my Dad, well he died when I was 8 in Afghanistan but I am not going to say anymore. That’ll set off the water works. My mum was heartbroken and found things so difficult, she became depressed and started working less. However 3 years ago she met a man who she thought would make her better and try to heal her broken heart and it did for a while but he became bored of her and turned on me.

“Bella, are you okay?” My mum questioned as she looked at me. I turned from the window to her and told her I was okay. The houses and streets passed and finally we arrived at the airport. The only luggage we had was most of our clothes and our most valued positions. Mum said it was cheaper to sell our furniture and buy new furniture when we got to Australia. Although we sold are furniture my mum had an old friend, who moved to Australia several years ago, had helped mum chose the house and she brought and placed some furniture in the house already so we could move in immediately.

Mum gave the taxi driver his money before haling the trolley full of suitcases into the airport towards the desk.

Soon we were sitting in the departure lounge, drinking coffee, waiting to be able to board the plane. I looked around the place, becoming slightly bored.

“Are you excited?” my mum asked breaking the thin sheet of silence.

“Of course, we’re moving halfway around the world and starting over.” I replied looking towards my mum. “I just hope I’ll make new friends at the new school.” I didn’t have many friends as it was and they weren’t bothered when I told them that I was moving, so technically I have no real friends but I wasn’t going to tell my mum that ‘cause she would blame herself, as always.

“Of course you will darling. You’re a smart, outgoing, kind and beautiful girl; don’t let anyone tell you anything different.” My mum reassured me, smiling. I was about to argue but I didn’t want her to lose her smile. I wasn’t ‘Beautiful’; I was an average girl with waist-long light brown hair with, mostly dull, blue/green eyes.

“Flight 16 to Australia is now boarding.” A bored sounding female voice said though the speakers. I pulled my mum to her feet and pulled her all the way to the desk to go to the plane. Okay, okay I am a little excited, to be honest.

A flight assistant showed us to our seats which were in FIRST CLASS. Mum never told me about this before. This felt weird, being in first class but not being overly rich and famous. My mum wrote kids book and liked to paint in her free time. She sold some of her work but gave a lot of the others to people for their birthdays. She never really worked well in offices or with a lot of peop-

“Would you like a drink?” I was asked by some guy with a trolley on wheels.

“Oh...urm...J-just water please?” I was startled by the question as I was so deep in thought, making what I said sound like a question. Blushing, I half smiled at the man as he handed me the bottle of water. My mum just chuckled at me, knowing that I was always losing myself in my thoughts.
