this song is magical and i sort of love the neighbourhood, in case you haven't noticed. lyrics also, in no particular order. and i'm probably just going to write these little things with all lower case because it makes everything so much easier on myself.

when i wake up i'm afraid / somebody else might take my place
"cleo?" a voice bounced off the walls and around the corners. deep and suave and obviously in love.
"cleo, babe?" it rang again, this time closer. this time worried.
cleo stepped out, hair tie in her teeth, and hands in her hair. she grinned, her eyes crinkling, and he smiled.
why would he need to be worried? he wouldn't, would he?
all my friends always lie to me / i know they're thinking
the alarm reverberated throughout the room, snapping his attention awake. he felt around next to him, to find a space; empty and cold, lacking the thing he treasured the most.
he sat up wordlessly, ran a hand through his hair, and stood to search.
she was in the bathroom though, brushing her teeth, and when she caught his reflection in the mirror, she smiled through the toothpaste, her eyes crinkling. he smiled back, and when he turned around again, to stumble back to bed, he cursed at himself.
stop worrying, tom. the words ran through his head several times before he flinched at himself. why worry? he didn't need to, did he?
you make me wanna scream at the top of my lungs / it hurts but i won't fight you
key in. turn. twist knob. open door. pull out key.
silence.
"cleo?" he asked, and a couple times in his head too.
"yeah, hey, sorry," she said some time later, "i was fixing something to eat." and she smiled, her eyes crinkling, and she wiped her hands off on a towel. tom sighed unnoticeably. relief or frustration, it was unknown.
she made her way towards him and kissed him on the cheek, "how was work?"
stop worrying.
when i wake up i'm afraid / somebody else might end up being me
the floor creaked.
tom sat up, startled, and felt next to him.
"cleo?" he murmured, his eyebrows arched. "cleo?"
louder.
"cleo?!"
again.
"babe, did i wake you?" she whispered, "i'm so sorry. i had to pee, and our damn floors." she sighed, and the floor creaked under her as she made her way to the bed.
head shaking, eyes crinkling.
stop.
