I'm startled awake in the night by her pained anguished cries

Switching on the light I see that blood has soaked the sheets

Her cries keep growing and I quickly throw on some clothes

There's a knock on the door and I open it to find Lola staring into the room curiously through a haze of fatigue

Her eyes widen when she sees the blood on the sheets

"Go I'll clean it up," she states

She cries out in terror but I don't say anything

I keep quiet while the storm inside me rages on

We don't return until late in the evening and our room is clean

It's as if nothing happened

We don't speak to each other

We both only look at her now shrunk belly

My pain swallows my voice and I'm overwhelmed by the crushing sensation in my bones

4am I find myself crawling into Lola's arms

"I'm so sorry daddy," she repeats over and over again while I cry bitterly into her shoulder
